Literally yesterday I was thinking someone should do this - I've always thought the extra bit of hardware you need for Serato / FS was completely unnecessary.

Gonna give it a try

I tried this. Interesting project, but it's very unpolished compared to Serato or Traktor Scratch (or even Torq). I wasn't expecting it to have the same feature set, but the interface feels clunky.

As for the little extra bit of hardware Serato and Traktor and Torq require:

1. It improves reliability for the application. They can test the heck out of this setup to make sure it'll work. Using unknown soundcards with unknown drivers can really cause problems, reflecting bad on the software.
2. It provides a copy protection scheme for the software. Software isn't always free, it takes a lot of work to make a decent application.

But if you already have a 4 in/4 out soundcard (which aren't cheap anyway), and don't mind spending $20 on some timecode vinyl (or just download the serato CD timecode if you used CDJ's), this is cool to play with.

I've already tried dj decks and deckadance with my bcd3000, will definitely try this out.

So has anyone tried this with the control cd's and an external mixer? I will post my results sometime tonight.

Yeah, someone needs to post a proper review.
