| Originally posted by kitphillips Haha, I didn't mean to start a PC vs Mac thing here, I'm really just talking about who has the support for the best hardware possible, since if your spending 4500 on a machine, you want the OS to be able to access all the hardware you've spent that cash on right And CPU and RAM are the best things to have for production. |
Well, I occasionally run out of RAM with 2 gig, so I'd really like 8
But thats creating these epic orchestral things I've been doing lately, with like, one channel running akoustik piano (50 gig library I think?) and another three running kontakt instruments worth about 500 Meg each. If you total it all up, it leads to pretty rapid RAM annihilation.
So I've started running stuff with dummy instruments, and substituting the better quality instruments in right before I bounce down.
Allright back with a setup now whaddaya think?

I think everyone can tell you what mobo and cpu to buy, graphic and ram you can decide for yourself, but for the rest of the DAW I highly suggest you these items.

I wonder how many VSTs you could run with that... Do most DAWs have support for 8 cores? Anyone care to predict the performance increases we're going to get? I imagine scheduling will start to take up a lot of cycles on one of those cores?
