Hipsters will never admit they are hipsters. WHY? I think it's because they all want to be different and unique.

I see a lot of hipsters everywhere I go. Maybe because I live a block away from a hipster strong hold aka an indie bar/club.

Whenever I pass by them, I hear them talk about art school, post-modern crap, nietzsche, some indie band, indie films, existentialism, french films on existentialism, berkeley, irony, how much republicans suck, and other high brow bull that makes normal people like me PO'd.

My favorite thing about these people is how they pretend that they're working class, and that the man is oppressing them. Yeah right bro. Look at your social capital for a sec hipsters. YOU GUYS ARE THE RULING CLASS. FFS. Most people want an upgrade, want to live comfortably in a suburb where there are no douches in the city and it's safer, want food on their table on a consistant basis. Why pretend to be poor?

You know what pisses me off most about hipsters? The ones who complain that they are "real punk" or whatever, and complain about how many punks aren't even "real punk." Um, yeah bro, we all know you grew up in a freakin' suburb in middle america where it's not that bad a place to live compared to a small, rotting 6x6ft apartment in the tender loins , or williamsburg or whatever.

not all hipsters are annoying though. a lot are pretty cool though.

A hipster is someone who's unique by using someone else's recycled ideas and clothes. Here today, gone tomorrow. & those fucking cruising bikes, fedoras, trucker hats, greased parted hair, goatees, Buddy Holly & Ray Ban glasses and dirty Converse are "original." The hipster chicks are usually short, fat and wide as a Mexican and the males are the exact opposite... extremely malnourished in not only the cerebral region, but the genital region as well. Their skinny jeans say so.

this phenomena is nothing new.

music and fashion have been recycled for ages. Every generation has a social group like this, and the criticisms about them tend to be the exact same ones no matter what year it is.

you must have to ask yourself why these people bother you...and if they truly bother you it might be you who has the problem.

That article pretty much sums it up: ironic, apathetic, obsessed with the image, referential, trying to deny categorisation... Hipsters are the post-modern condition writ large, except that in being freed from the conventional they've merely stagnated in conventions of their own.

Since the 1920s at least. Some of the artists living in New York and Paris during Hemingway and Fitzgerald's early years were arguably the first "hipsters." Not to say that that H. and F. were themselves hipsters; they were not. But along with the real bohemians and avante-gardists came lots of fake ones.

Every generation does indeed have phony, snooty hangers-on to trends.
