If you're still playing sports after school on any kind of serious level and not being paid a whack load of cash for it, you should probably just get a job

haha. throwing and catching a hand-sized ball. forgive me if im missing something but that skillset isn't particularly elite from where im sitting.

One might argue that for most sports I mean how hard is it to play football anyway. You kick the ball around a bit, run to the goal, maybe pass the ball once and score. in essence very simple, but we all know it takes much more than that

Perhaps you just need to be from Europe to get what the big deal is?

but handball doesn't take much more than that, which is my point. its like a bastardised version of basketball and soccer, without the skill of either.

Oh and I am not religious about any sport, but football is the sport I watch. It is my fav. I hope Russia goes far this World Cup.

i don't know why but i'm just not into it. i'm not an athletic person aside from just going to the gym to keep in shape and look good. i mean i played tennis in high school and that's it. i'm not very competative and i feel that's what sports/olympics are all about. i know the olympics are cool but they are still just competative sports to me so i don't go out of my way to watch them.

i was watching womens' volleyball though yesterday and i was just staring at their asses and bodies the whole time like 'damn' lol

The Olympics are practically the only sports I watch. It's only every 2 years. And its sports that you never really see outside of normal sports programming. All we ever see is football, baseball, hockey, and basketball.

He seems a bit naive, it looks like he thinks democracy solves all problems. Which is really far from the truth.

If it didn't take that much skill to play it, i would be driving around today with a brand new bmw 6 series like a friend of mine that used to play with me, but was much, much better at it than i was so he went pro

Seriously though, neither kicking or throwing a ball take much skill but breaking trough a well formed opponents defence and scoring a goal with three people covering you isn't something a person without skill can accomplish. Be it football or handball or hockey or anything basically.

Posted by Ian on Aug-21-2008 06:58:

Most of it is filler but there is some good stuff, such as hockey which my family has played for 3 generations to a decent level & many more. As much of a fan of football as I am, it doesn't work at olympic level to the same extent. Too many competitions as it is and restricting it to under 23 but then allowing 3 'overage' players doesn't really work. Shit like horse riding annoys me too, and shooting, they can be sports but olympic ones? meh. it's worth watching at times when there's nowt else on and to pass time whilst studying though, and then a few events are worth watching for the hype alone.

as someone from europe, i can happily say "what the fuck is that" it looks like a school sport

Posted by Moongoose on Aug-21-2008 07:16:

On this case yes We can both hate on another sport though. how do you feel about baseball? Im ok with hating on that

Posted by bananas on Aug-21-2008 07:26:

i luv zee olympics :]
edit: especially basketball tournament

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Aug-21-2008 07:28:

hahaha. yeah, baseball sucks the wang its like a slightly more interesting version of cricket (only coz of the fights).

as far as the olympics goes, i dont quite understand the addition of sports that have other levels of competition that blatantly "out-rank" the olympics. seems a bit cheap and self serving.

but soccer, NFL, motor racing, ice hockey. they get me hard in the trousers. but i certainly dont get into all sports any more than im into all computer games

and also, handball doesn't compare to any of the sports thus far mentioned. if i had to pick the sport that would be the easiest to compete at @ the olympic level, it would have to be one of the choices floating around. fuck man.

like seriously. how can you even compare a shit game like baseball to handball in terms of skill? haha, all you need is a physical presence and an ability to catch/throw a ball. something any 9 year old could be taught to do.

and probably for homos. present compant excepted

forged alliance and Q3 take more skill than playing handball

Posted by Moongoose on Aug-21-2008 07:36:

I will grant you forged alilance, but Q3 is an insult...at least say Unreal tournament or something...compare it to a good game ffs

oh, its that old chestnut

whilst i agree that UT99 was an awesome title, the physics, weapon balance, lack of "head shot!" and less team-orientated gameplay in q3 suited me more. and for the gameplay types that i really did enjoy in UT (like the "realistic" mod that shipped with original UT) the bots always tended to suck (we're talking at a time where twitch shooters online blew chunks in aust of course, and Q3 is what was getting played in my neck of the woods at the time).

i also think some of the UT maps lacked the design professionalism that id had at that time.

q3 had the elegant simplicity that i am after in a that kind of shooter for the 1v1 deathmatch.

Posted by sean5 on Aug-21-2008 08:03:

olympics suck ass. most of the sports nobody cares about and there are quite a few that are just there so that the usa can get easy medals. it's also too political with all these fuckheads protesting tibet and darfur just to get attention for themselves. not to mention doping which will inevitably come out years from now.

Aussies in the UK are getting their pants in a right twist over being behind us, it's quite funny to see on the news

Re: Sports/Olympics

you're shallow. we get it.

the olympics isn't just about competition. it is about the pushing the limits of humanity. get out to a track, run 100 meters and see how close you can get to 9.69 seconds. maybe then you will appreciate the games more.

Posted by Moongoose on Aug-21-2008 10:56:

pft, quake fags No matter what you say about quake, UT has one think that makes it much much cooler than quake. The redeemer

Speaking of games, im quite upset that there is no handball sim available to play. FFS we have a golf sim, baseball sim and other boring games, how are they better than handball. When i eventually create my own video game company a handball sim is one of the games we must make.
