Just the stupid whoring myself kind. I'm just procrastinating as they are due tomorrow for a resume collect at school. I need a summer job which will lead to a real job after law school.

What do these numbers mean?

course numbers, duh normally they will reflect the level of the course. ie politics 101 is first year, while politics 201 might be second.

They're just the course numbers the university uses. I don't know why I even typed them. 200-level courses are graduate-level though.

I thought so, but because the system we use here is different, I always wondered what the last two numbers mean (i.e. what's the difference between a 103 and a 106).

All those subjects and you're a graduate student?

Yeah, our educational system is quite different down here

Posted by Pokit on Aug-28-2008 05:06:

this semester is pretty easy.
13 credit hrs
Differential equations/linear algebra
LEAP (some easy class all engineers have to take)
Writing (I hate this shit)
Astronomy ("the universe")

All early morning classes. Goodbye sleeping in

Pretty much every school uses a different numbering system. At my school the first number is the grade level 1 for freshman, 2 for sophomore, 3 for junior,... up to 8 or 9 for doctoral research. Every university must have different grad school requirements because I know here 9 hours (3 classes) is considered full time, and you aren't allowed to work for anyone while you are taking your degree. a $20,000 stipend is given each year and all tuition/fees are paid for by the university.

UTSA?

Posted by Zild on Aug-28-2008 05:21:

Ya it is the same for most UT schools I think. The only other one I went to was UT in Austin and they used the same numbering system except 3 numbers instead of 4 numbers. Like CHE 434 instead of CHE 4334.

Posted by tachobg on Aug-28-2008 05:23:

Yea in my school the numbering even varies by department. Usually the only convention is y.0xz is an intro subject in department y, and all the other y.wxz are numbered based on category as opposed to level. for ex in math w = 1 means analysis, w=2 mathematical physics, etc.

so i guess conventions vary a lot...

I think that might be UTSA specific thing, but I could be wrong. I remember some people doing their graduate studies when I was an undergrad at UT and they were allowed to work, most of the time they'd try to do it on campus of course researching or being a teaching assistant. I guess they might have done off campus work under the table.

UT Austins numbering system was weird. First number was the number of hours, next two was the level of the class. I think 1-20 was lower level 20-70's was upper division and anything higher was graduate level.

It might be department specific for all I know. You have to work helping out the professors with their research until you pick a topic you want to do original research on for your dissertation at which point your research belongs to the university. You aren't allowed to work for anyone else and like I said they pay $20,000/yr plus tuition/fees it comes out to around $30,000, but it just might be a department thing.

I do know they have things like executive MBA programs for people who already have a career, so I'm sure it depends on what degree you want to get.

I was referring to the UT numbering system being the same since one of the numbers designates the level and the other one designates how many hours.

Yea Biochem sucks ass, though I didn't think Medicinal was that bad.

You have an entire class dedicated to Spectro? Wtf for? It's fairly straightforward.

Drop the stupid art class and save the money krypt. You don't need to go full time ya know. Art appreciation is a pointless waste of time and $$$
