How long do they plan to enforce the cerfew?

This is starting to sound like Markus may have to reschedule

normally, i'd expect things to go back to normal after 2-3 days...but i think this storm was a little worse than usual and it will take longer; what happens friday is still up in the air...

So what's it like in downtown H-town? My wife's parents can't go home yet and they live in Galveston.

Posted by JBDreamerie on Sep-15-2008 14:58:

downtown is a hodge podge...my parents neighborhood is an absolute mess, looks like a war zone...
power seemed to be on in skyscrapers in downtown, but very sporadic neighborhoods have power...kind of a mixed feeling of creepiness and tranquility at night when driving around...
a bunch of blocked roads everywhere, and random stores and gas stations open with lines going around the corner.
i live a few blocks away from Bar rio, haven't driven by yet, but damage didn't seem to be as bad as it was in other places...

This is all so amazing since when the storm hit, it didn't seem too bad. It was only later that the extent of the damage was realized. Just odd to me.

yea...absolutely...i drank a couple of strong rum and cokes before going to sleep Friday night and just woke up once after i heard a loud boom (ended up being the gutter falling right in front of my patio), but slept like a baby otherwise. when i woke up it seemed like the apocalypse happened
i'm at work now though...it's so nice to have power and water...i'm hoping when i get back home power will be back on...

Totally nuts. Have they given any type of ETA for basic needs restoration?

i was listening on the radio, and they were saying 2-4 weeks...i can't imagine it being that long, but i assume they were talking about greater houston area...for high density population areas to take that long to recover would be very detrimental

I know that a huge team of utility trucks and other civil service teams were deploying from Dallas this morning. I think Austin was doing the same. That's good. They aren't screwing around trying to wait for the Fed to come to the rescue.

Any way to confirm this?

EDIT-Also, does anyone know of any hotels that ARE open down there? We looked at Hilton, Doubletree, Magnolia and ZaZa and all of them are closed. Looks like we might have to book something in the freaking Woodlands if we decide to make the trip to see Markus
