I'm surprised he didn't make the move sooner. Glad to see he is sticking to his guns by doing the beatmatching himself, instead of letting the computer do it for him.

That video is fucking awesome.

Edit: OK, not only is it awesome to see how Hawtin goes about doing what he does with Traktor, but to see someone who's literally seen it and done it all still be so fucking excited about DJ'ing is even more mega.

Just absolutely inspiring.

"You can't just put 4 of your favorite tracks together...that might turn into one of your...least favorite tracks"

Richie Hawtin...genius or messiah of mixing?

Posted by Sadface on Sep-04-2008 01:58:

Yeah, it makes me want traktor like a mother******. He's got a really sweet setup with that thing.

Is his "effects computer" running ableton? I imagine they don't show it in the video because it's a Traktor promo vid.

They're owned by the same company

And yeah - that video basically makes me crave a fucking paycheck to blow on all sorts of new toys.

Nobody can say for sure since he hasn't really started using the setup live. It should be interesting to see either way.

And it's not about what he plays, but how he plays it.

Just watched that video...yeah, i'm sold on Traktor now.

Does Hawtin even use the turntables now? I thought I remember him recently ditching the decks.

His current setup is crazy, loved his custom Xone:92 CTRL Mixer.

this. but good to see old schoolers embracing digital. i rememeber reading an interview about oakey saying cds will never work for him. waiting for him to go serato.

Does any big EDM jock still use vinyl?

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Sep-04-2008 17:19:

Traitors, every last one of them!

Vinyl forever.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-04-2008 17:28:

When I saw him here a week ago he was using three laptops (Traktor, Ableton, the third one was half-way closed), Xone:92, and two Xone:1D's. I think that's his road setup.

I thought Sven Vath still did.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-04-2008 18:13:

cd's ^^^

tons of big guys still play records.

Posted by Zoso on Sep-04-2008 18:32:

Amazing what all one can do with a purely digital setup. Makes mixing on my turntables seem rather small and boring.

I thought to myself that if I had a laptop I'd have bought traktor right on the spot. I was sold as well.
