Clearly you have never been in traffic in a city with hills so steep there are STEPS on the side instead of a sidewalk at a crawling pace with people riding your a$$. Do that, then speak.

All that said and we are still the best country in the world, sorry.

I have always driven stick. Been to SF and LA in traffic. No big deal imho. Your leg gets a little tired, but it is easy to deal with.

Learned how to drive a manual around 18. I'm 24 now, and don't think I'll ever buy an Automatic again.

Learned to drive manual around age 12. Mom and dad live on my uncle's 365 acre farm, so I had all sorts of room with which to fark around.

I dont think I ever want to own a car thats an auto. Ive always owned stickshifts and drove SF waaaaay too many times. Hill can be a bitch but its not that bad. Keeps me off the phone and I feel I pay more attention to the road. I also feel I have more control of the car. I use engine braking rather than all the brake tapping that happens in autos.

so true! i usually have my cellphone under my ear too.

standard transmission are the best. and they are really easy to learn but just difficult to drive on steep hills especially if you have to make stops for lights or signs

Gotta agree, I pay more attention when I'm driving stick vs autos. Also if there are winding roads vs straight flat roads which is the case here in Houston.

I learned how to engine break driving down hill after the break pads had over heated. Really bad timing and nearly pissed my pants. Also putting the car in Neutral gives you different results when going down hill vs gliding on flat road.

stick + hyper-miling = +MPG

And apparently is a tool you need to remove from yours

For me, stick/auto is only applicable to what kind of car it is. Sure won't be driving a benz with a stick, but love a c6 in a 6speed.

That is because you live in Irvine. The fucking bubble of California. Oh and MBUSA also doesn't offer manual on most of their models unlike their European counterparts.

What also sucks is some of the AMG cars have so much torque that they are distroying auto transmissions. IIRC they had to limit the cars so it wouldnt happen. Id love one of those new C class AMGs in a stick.

Yeah I have heard that too. You can custom order the ones that don't come in stick if you have yours built and go pick it up in Europe, but that is the only way.
