-- Who are the most under-rated local Toronto DJs/Producers right now?

Although some may have impeccable taste in music as well as a solid base knowledge, I don't necessarily believe being a DJ is the ultimate example of passion for the music.

I know people who are extremely educated about music and all that encompasses it but have absolutely no desire to start DJing.

And for the record, Jason Myles is definitely under-rated.

i agree. Lee Osborne is wikked.

I'd also like to add Alicia Hush....her minimal/tech sets are unique to her. I recommend checking her out on Wednesday nights at Toi Bar! no cover, and cheap drinks before 11pm i think.

i think both Lee and Alicia are both pretty recognizable Dj's now...but def. deserve a mention!

Hush is fantastic. Her music is a perfect combination of twisted and grimy laced with rediculous baselines. I absolutely adore her taste in music.

Point taken, but seeing as "underrated" is a relative term, I guess it depends on where you set the bar. lol

With regard to Carlo, I guess I was thinking about his production skills, rather than his DJ performances, and I was thinking about international acclaim, not just Toronto. For whatever reason, Nathan always seems to get a bit more recognition for his DJ sets than Carlo, and I'm not really sure why that is. Nathan's smooth bobble-head like movements while he plays may have something to do with it. lol Personally they have both always impressed me live. Furthermore, I think that Carlo's production work is improving, and his status internationally (not in Toronto) may be trending upward . But what do I know? You are probably more qualified to weigh in on that one.

Regarding Button, I was simply trying to share a piece of information regarding his breadth of music taste and knowledge (Hip-Hop and Rap) that most people probably didn't know about. He is definitely one of the most under-rated hip-hop DJs in the city, seeing as I am probably the only one who has ever heard him play live. lol I also added his name in there, knowing you would have something to say about it. TA is the home of the JonJon vs. Button Wars, is it not? lol

as usual... same goes for a lot of the other people mentioned within. I motion that Endgame move to the top of this list.

The mention about Alicia Hush tipped me to think of Aleksandra. She blew me away on the last boat cruise I heard her on...and when she opened for Steve Porter, was it me, or did she come out of nowhere? Great set!! (steve porter/aleksandra review link: http://www.scenestermag.com/review_sport-fw.html)

Personally, I think Nathan's Mixing is flawless. His choice in tracks is perfect and he plays the crowd amazingly. Hense why he gets more recognition for his DJ sets.

I think Carlo's productions are top notch, and prefer his remixes to many others. His strength is his productions. IMO.

I was actually surprised to read your opinion. I believe the above is the general concensus. or atleast the people I have discussed this topic with, feel the same.

I know this is the consensus around Toronto. What I was trying to say (and obviously failed, lol) is that Carlo is underrated because he really doesn't seem to have received serious international recognition for his productions. As I said before, and based on what I have heard is his recent work, I suspect that may change soon. Cool? Cool.

I'd def. love to see more of her. Amazing track selection, flawless mixing, and great vibe/energy behind the booth. Very impressed.

i couldnt agree with you more.

I presume the reason is, there is a big market out there. We may think he should excel but it's hard to get recognition internationally.

I do agree though that his productions internationally are under-rated.

Marketing may be a reason. Although I can only assume.

Politics and ballwashing aside, who do you think are the most under-rated and/or under-appreciated local Toronto DJs right now, and why? I asked this question to a well known local DJ a week or two ago, and he replied with a straight face: "I am." He was dead serious, too. F*cking clown. lol And no, it wasn't Button.

CLUE PLS or can we guess?

I say DJ TK is the most underrated. This chick is amazing! Seen her a handful of times at the Zone and she was a amazing! Same with her set at PRIDE... or any other place ive seen her for that matter

LEE OSBORNE!!

This guy blew my mind two years ago and has been to this day. There is no other dj in the city that plays like him. His twisted techno is so fun and creepy!!

Can't wait to hear him on the Green Velvet cruise next Sunday!!!

ive always thought carlos productions are top notch and should receive higher ranks on beatport. does it have anything to do with label recognition? cuz def many of his tracks deserve top 5s on bp.

Lee Osborne was simply outstanding on NYD in the Silver Dollar Room. Hopefully we will see a repeat this coming NYD.

I'd say what I really want but ppl who know me or this industry will understand if I don't....LOL Obviously it's not really a good question as alot of Dj's don't get to play in the big clubs therefore your giving your opinion on the dj's you have heard. I've said my piece long ago on how I felt towards the skill level of dj's in the city on all aspects....some liked the comments, and others didn't so much. HOWEVER seeing as I have played with many of them the ABSOLUTE most under rated Dj in Toronto BY FAR is ANTHONY D'AMICO. Anthony's programming & mixing are top notch and he can play any genre at anytime making him totally versatile in any gig he plays. NOW Anthony does play some big parties with Ally & TilltheAM BUT HE DOES NOT PLAY AS MUCH AS HE SHOULD!!! A HIDDEN GEM PPL.....SERIOUSLY!!! ALSO Jamie Kidd is JUST SICK AS WELL!!! A pleasure to speak to as well......Jamie knows his shit and is going places REAL SOON!! Peace

most of the DJs mentioned in here are not under-rated DJs.....most of them play the big clubs in town and IMO that right there disqualifies them as under-rated. I think you need to look at the local DJs who are playing smaller unknown clubs and haven't had the chance to play the main clubs in Toronto.
