Tried the Xone XD 53's today for the first time..

Honestly, i hated them! They feel loose around the ears. The cups aren't really that comfortable. The isolation compared to my HD25's was awful.

Granted i might have to let them run in a little while but initial impressions were far from spectacular.

It was nice gaining some reassurance that the HD25's i have are a great set of cans.

That huge headphone thread

I skimmed every single page to see if anyone has tried/mentioned the AKG 181's, but to no avail. So, anyone got em or have anything to say about em?

They're shit, that's why no one has mentioned them.

I have both the Sony V6s and the HD25s; I prefer the HD25s for DJing because the Sonys are very heavy and don't swivel at all, but they are also useful in louder environments when you're looking for better sound isolation.

It should be noted that despite their reputation, the bass response on HD25s is actually quite poor, though the overall sound quality is decent.

Thanks for the response, surprised that they'd be total shit. I say this because I've seen other AKG models that TA's have kudo'd... and this being an actual 'DJ line' of headphones from AKG I was expecting some good news.

I want to grab the Ultrasone DJ1's, but fuck the logos on the cups are brutal. I shouldn't judge looks I know, but that DJ1 logo

EDIT:
Fuck it, getting the DJ1 Pro's.

Meh.

It all comes down to the standards of the company.

Behringer make a lot of mixers, almost complete copies of Pioneer's gear in layout and features, but their products are terrible.

I don't know a lot about AKG products, but I know they will never be as good as Sony, Sennheiser or Pioneer.

My HD-280 pros are still ticking after 4 years of moving, travelling, loaning them out, etc. Love them. Might get some 7506s though when I get new cans.

I have the AKG 181's and they r great, had Sony and Pioneers and these r more rugged, everything is replacable and better sound isolation. No one has written about them cuz they r so hard to actually find when you are looking in stores for them. The HD25's are much lighter and I will probably get those next, but I do enjoy the AKG's. As far as quality they are much better than Sony etc and have been known for years for their great quality in musical equipment, especially monitoring headphones and microphones, so no comparison in brands unless you dont realize what they have done in the music industry in general. If you get the choice and play long gigs I'd go Sennheiser, if you want more rugged and are more abusive on your headphones I'd stick to the AKG's

Likewise. Been using HD-280 pros for years now, and they're held out fine. Although I would definitely recommend HD-25s if you don't mind supra-aural style. The HD-280 pros are more comfortable IMO.

does anyone else have a vote for the denon DN-HP1000's?

I just got a pair of the Sony MDR-V700DJs and so far I'm loving them, much better sound quality than my last pair of crappy no name cans, the cups cover my whole ear and are super comfortable, the sound quality is good and has strong bass response.
Oh, and they look good too which although isn't needed is a nice bonus

just picked up pioneer's hdj1000s, enjoying them thoroughly so far. will report back if anything happens to them.

Get the RP-DH1200. I had them for several years and they just started to crack.

I've just recently bought a pair of the ultrasones dj-1's, I like them but i don't think they are all that.. therem is definately far better out there on the market. volumes up high I find some serious distortion which my technics rpdj's handle no problem. They also feel extremely cheaply made in comparison to the technics..

The pro model on the other hand, seem to be much better built and can handle loud volumes better. Don't get me wrong the sound of the dj-1's is incredible, i just don't think you can push them very far and i'd hesitate to use them in a club environment because of this..

My brother has the pro model tho and i'd sex all over them, there lush but for the price you'd expect that. right now i'm stickin by old faithful:

had them for three years and they still show no signs of ageing.

I have tried the basic version of these ( the ones without the little slider on the ear cup ), and the sound was pretty good, though it was not in a club environment so i don't know how well the isolation is, the bass is nice and punchy and the highs aren't too overwhelming.

read these reviews. get the 7506
