Apparently, you're not alone.

Awesome, but how terrible is it that at the bottom of the page they have an ad for a giant bag of cotton balls?

I know! That cracked me up too when I saw it

I have a fear of 5 inch long scorpions, centipedes, and tarantulas. Funny thing is, I've found all 3 in my house or in my back yard. The centipede was in my room...

Lies. Rob hates cotton because it's picked by black people aka David aka inconspicuous and because he's black, like the cotton picking people, he hates cotton.

so 6 and 7 inch Scorpions are ok?

lol

As far as phobias go that one isn't all that unusual. People think it's weird because 'phobias' are one of those psych terms that get misused very frequently and largely misunderstood. I once knew a girl who had a phobia of boats. No, she wasn't afraid of going on them and having them sink, she was just afraid of boats in general. You could buy a little toy boat at the dollar store, show it to her and she would run away screaming.

Cotton balls are awful. Why are they so dry?

lame...considering the fact that the root of all phobias is a fear of death, so in the back of your mind you somehow think you will die from peanut butter being stuck to the roof of your mouth lol

my only fear in life is childbirth.

That's why it's called an irrational fear.

I'm not sure where I got it, but I have heard an argument that's at least similar to the idea that all phobias stem from a fear of our own mortality - whether it be rational (fear of falling from heights) or completely absurd (again, fear of cotton balls).

Jamie's comment actually got me itchin' to try and track down where it is I read that - because I recall it being a pretty interesting article. Will post if I can master Google.

I would like to read that article if you find it.

Fear of death is rational, and that's the very definition of what a phobia isn't.

Fear of death for irrational reasons is *I think* what the argument was all about.

I might just have to email my old psych. prof., as he'll know right away (was a handout in class).

That doesn't really make sense. Death rationalizes the fear. Doesn't matter if it's founded in fact or not, so long as it's rationalized. Unless of course you're talking about somekind of subconscious fear of death, in which case it can't be proven.

i'm pretty sure i heard that from my shrink back in the day...made sense. lol

used to be utterly repulsed by certain colours.. pink, ugly-green, purple and the likes. hrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhieeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Posted by SuspicionVandit on Sep-13-2008 19:22:

my personal abnormal phobia would be a fear of vacuum cleaning without shoes. All the talk and bragging from the television commercials about the horsepower that goes into the motors always worries me about things being sucked in and out the other, injuring my feet. So I must always wear shoes and pants as protective gear.

and also the fear of trance dying.
