Originally posted by malek why do you say that? Cuba can still do business with the rest of the world and guess what... they do!! Are you implying that if you don't do business with the USA, you're doomed forever? IMO, it has to do with their government, more than the embargo... the official motto is that they are the best country in the world bar none, some people over there do believe it, which makes it worse because there's no need for real improvements. Bacaradi was originally from Cuba, the Bacardi family left Cuba, so Havana Club Rum has the same recipe and officially replaced it... or so what they said at the Havana Club factory in Havana (i was there in 2006).
surprisingly cuba has the highest literacy rate in the world, maybe behind singapore. it sucks the US won't open up to them because if we did, that place would be the next vegas or miami and all the cuban cigars in the world
. it's so nice there the beaches are illlll
numbers lie and don't mean shit

Embargos should be reserved for countries which threaten others directly and also countries which are engaged in genocide.
quote:
Yea, Cuba's economy is marxist, WTF is it to you? That's not a reason to fuck them over. PERIOD.

totally agree.

we apply embargos all the time on a much lower standard than that.

and again, it's not like we don't give them nothing. humanitarian aid is what we do best. we don't deny them that.

why do you insist their "self-determination" is entirely determinate on what we do?

in any case all they have to do is reject what has crippled them at the hands of one ideologue for the last half century and, BELIEVE ME, there will be no end to the outpouring of all that is good (and possibly bad considering they've been basically caged for 60 years) from this one country which apparently they can't live without.
