But I don't think that's the type of humour they were shooting for.

Microsoft has, for once, actually taken the high road. They've answered the accusation that they cater to a bunch of philistines, without escalating it into the schoolyard bullying that Apple and its fanboys all seem to be so very fond of.

+1 Totally agree with you...and you sound a lot like maddox haha

What's funny is the Advertising agency used macs :P and now the fanboys are having a field day with it.

I think the commercial is fantastic!!! It's not meant to be funny, and I completely agree with everyone who was talking about advertising without beating down your competition etc etc.. taking the high road.
I like how they showed so many diverse "users" so anyone watching can relate to at least one person in some way. Makes the brand more 3-dimensional.

Also, I've never really had huge problems with vista.. obviously there was a learning curve but that's normal. Those who say it sucks, say why.. am I missing something? LOL .. works for me..

all apple ads are done by Media Arts Lab which is an offshoot of JWT Los Angeles that was created BY apple....this facility apparently has the highest security that not even JWT employees can walk into the complex and everything is highly top secret until launch.

the "I'm a Mac" commercials are really annoying and even more annoying to know that the guy that plays mac actually dislikes them and has said it on occasion as well.

the "I'm a PC" campaign is basically showing how windows and well "non Macs" are a more universal thing by showing people from all walks of life, all over the world sharing something in common and thereby has a higher impact rather than advertising this big package that u pay over 2.5 Gs for and have to chuck out should u wish to upgrade

How is this an awesome counter commercial?

Microsoft just proved to everyone they lack 0 creativity, and 0 ability to do anything unique, without biting Apple.

Microsoft just doesn't get it.

If they didn't do this, their reputation would continue to be shit on by Apple.

Only an Apple apologist would say what you just said. MAC USER FOUND, GET OUT

Posted by StereoPrincess on Sep-20-2008 16:53:

lol. I think a lot of people are missing the point of the ad. Compare market share of PC vs Mac. Mac is like a blip. I mean, have your MAC to edit photos and make cute vlogs but serious business uses PC and worldwide PC is tops.

Some of the recent "I'm a PC" ads were created on a Mac, go figure.

Microsoft posted screenshots of these ads on their website, and some (a few) people found that the image was from Adobe Photoshop CS3 on the Macintosh platform. After this got out, Microsoft scrambled to replace the image, which they did.

the creativity is in how they promote a product by indirectly saying that their product is the most commonly used platfrom by people all over the world thereby being an easier and more acceptable one as compared to apple's blatant attack on its competition

apple has always had ads by windows barely needed to advertise so that should say something about why they dont need to do much in their campaign

Posted by VERTiG0 on Sep-20-2008 16:55:

Excuse me Margs but making video mashups of my dog barking and a cute clip of a cat meowing all set to the sultry sounds of Enya is serious friggin business to me, also I just love to warp my face with iPhoto its just so much fun let me tell you! You don't know what you're missing with your Micro$oft experience! MAC MAC MAC MAC MAC

Since when does it matter if a user think's he or she 'counts'? Count for what?

Simply put, I prefer Macs for all my design, and audio/video needs just because it works better.

Why doesn't microsoft make the ads themselves using their Vista OS and Expression Studio which "takes your creative possibilities to a new level" ?

Doesn't matter. For every piece of software you can use for PC, there's a better alternative for Mac.

Hardware is one of the biggest reasons i prefer macs to PCs. I dont need to look at a Korean drivers website to find drivers for my firewire card, or my camera. I plug it in, and it works.

Hahahhahah I thought you were serious until I read the 2nd part of that post.

You have to be fucking kidding. The hardware is the same stuff. You use a candy-coated PC with a fancy version of BSD.

Tell us the superior alternative to AutoCAD for OS X.

ANSWER: There is none.

Recommendation: Get out of this thread while you still can.

http://www.architosh.com/

http://www.ashlar.com/sections/prod...w/overview.html

http://www.pure-mac.com/cad.html

And if you're till hung up on using AutoCad specifically, just use bootcamp to install XP, which still works better than Vista.

Only because AutoCad was first released in 1982 to be used on IBM PCs whereas the first Macintosh was released in 1984.

If they had waited 2 years, their code would've been made for the Mac as opposed to PC, and the would've continued their line of products specifically for Macs.

If anything, that post doesn't add points to Microsoft, but to Autodesk instead, who have created an exceptional piece of software.
