Just be glad you don't live in the US and have some of your medical paid for!

At least the doctor visits are covered....would you rather that not be paid for and still have to pay for dental and eye care?

Canada also isn't a perfect socialist society. and griping bitching ona web forum isn't going to get optical and dental stuff covered by OHIP. so why not just get some 3rd party health insurance to help cover the costs of what isn't covered by OHIP.

Posted by StereoPrincess on Sep-24-2008 17:18:

Hmm.

I think people that are on welfare, get some stuff covered, yes?

If you are blind go on disability and they will pay for everything.

Also, don't forget to claim your health costs on your income tax.

I work for the govt. Govt benefits are pretty darn good (though pain in the ass to access it)

OHIP needs improvement... hence why I rant (and make fun of politicians)

Eeeep! I miss OHIP!

Ive recently moved out to Columbus Ohio, and recently needed to get my thyroid levels checked. God how I miss being able to just head to my doctor, drop the card and head on in. $200 bucks just to see a doctor and get blood drawn. That doesnt include the diagnosis, prescription etc.
Also, Im a firm believer that OHIP should cover at the very least, SOME dental. Even if just for children. That stuff adds up hardcore

BRUSH UR FUCKING TEETH! Its bad enough we have to pay for all these people who smoked there hole life and now live in a cancer hospital. I'd rather my taxes not go to assholes who cant find 5 mins to brush there teeth each day!

Fuck.

There is so much good paying work out there...

But most ppl are LAZY and don't want to do a hard days work...

My mom is legally blind now, horrible vision, just getting worse (macular degeneration) and the government does not pay for everything, which sucks. CNIB helps for some things too, but still.

Hints:

a) VOTE in the upcoming election
b) don't vote Conservative

c) UofT dentistry student clinic, while not the most pleasant experience in the world, is a whack less expensive than your average established practitioner

if she applied for disability and got denied, tell her to keep applying.

they automatically deny the first 3 times. no questions.

yep, I went to my dentist...told them I needed a cleaning/x-rays...

It came up to $200, but because I don't currently have a dental plan, they charged me $150. I'm fortunate to have a job in which I can afford things like seeing the dentist. Many people do not have jobs nor make enough to afford this.

To some degree, I agree with Yohan, everyone should be entitled to a basic dental cleaning once a year. I went to my dentist last night and read about this story.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we even have OHIP. But it'd be nice if some improvements could be done in our health system nonetheless.

By the way, eye-doctor visits are no longer covered by OHIP unless I believe you're under 13 y/o or over 60 y/o.
