we have the same problems in canada. The system is flawed due to the stress that the boomers will put on the system vs the ability to actually sustain the funds.

I was just being facetious. I fully expect to receive FUCK ALL from the government assuming it and I exist at the time. In fact, my understanding is that SS dollars go into some general fund which is already spent anyway. There is no Social Security deposit account, for example, holding this money and allowing it to accrue interest.

How do I get my Canadian citizenship? America is going to hell and I don't want to follow it

Yep. The thing is, America's decline in birth rate has not been as sharp as in other countries; we were still slightly above replacement rate even when the birth rate was lowest, while a number of European and Asian countries have not been. In addition, Americans are stingy and have social security programs with fewer benefits than those in many other countries.

But as I've already said, we have other big problems to deal with, like our crazy lending practices.

the birth rate is not as declined if you compare to 5 years ago...compare it to the 50's.

stingy or not, there is not enough so it essentially neutralizes your whole argument.

How? My argument is that everybody's getting fucked one way or another.

yes, but your anus will bleed alot more than the others

Maybe so, maybe not. We shall see.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-25-2008 20:45:

skewed optimism is what got you guys in trouble in the first place.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Sep-25-2008 20:46:

Well, that's okay I guess, since I'm not optimistic. I think the world economy is in for a rough ride in the next ten to fifteen years.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-25-2008 20:47:

if i were you i would worry more about the draft being brought back.

+1, I'd say that will follow this crisis.

Why do you think that would happen, given the extreme unpopularity of our latest wars?

woooohooo /dusts off soviet passport

also, $700 billion, that's like $5,000 per taxpayer?

Posted by elFreak on Sep-25-2008 20:53:

Indeed. Generate enough fear and or hate and they'll buy in. Or, better yet, fuck their opinions and go in anyway. But we'd never do that...ohwaitfuckme.

it almost happened with Georgia-Russia conflict a few weeks back

US started sending weapons to Poland for "defense system" while in the media light we wanted to end conflict through peace talks.

Plus any other 9/11 incident and everyone would be more than glad to pick up their guns and march upon the "enemy"

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Sep-25-2008 21:05:

Meh, the response to a draft now would be ridiculously negative, dwarfing the anger that erupted against the Vietnam draft, especially since current draft bills floating around the legislature (a) include both women and men and (b) don't make any exemption for college, so they would be hitting a lot more people this time around.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-25-2008 21:07:

all drafts have not been supported or popular by the us population.

they still did it.

throughout the history of man history has had a strange way of repeating itself. Why would this be any different today?

you are mistaken if you think popular opinion means anything outside of an election year.

come on you are smarter than that.
