The guy who did the bookings for Estate until they just recently stopped booking international acts moved to florida. Dave Ralph (who worked at Avalon too) was doing the bookings at Estate for awhile then he left much earlier this year.

so maybe w/ that being said, it will open up after the concerts are over for some dance events? - but for some reason, i'm doubting it only because i don't think boston can get that lucky

Paul is right They will want to make money after the concerts are over and the concerts usually go until 10 only so hopefully that means dance music after.

I'm sure you were but there will be like 5 people there and it's way too expensive to book them again aka not worth it

Posted by stringfelowhawk on Dec-16-2008 21:46:

Thanks Azz3D, I'll start checking out those places after the New Year. Might even start with the places in Cambridge as it's closer to me.

welp... i knew it...

"The club will not, however, bring back the popular dance nights that were a huge part of Avalon's success. "It's really much more of a dedicated performance space than it ever was," Law said."

article here

This gets me so angry. Ugh, nothing against the new bands being booked but if they try to call the house of blues a CLUB one more time i am going to scream. its not a club. IT WAS a club. Now it is a concert venue. not a club.

from this article:
http://www.aceticket.com/blog/01/29...e-street-clubs/

"The two clubs formerly known as Axis and Avalon are currently undergoing a $14-million dollar renovation, but will open as one new club under a new name and owner."

.. same article a few sentences later...

"Lyons has decided to back away from the club/music scene to focus on the restaurants that he owns throughout New England."

Yes, you are backing away from the club/music scene so stop calling your new investment a club. its not.

whatever in all honesty it will bring money and tourism to the city, but obviously i want my damn EDM clubs, stop tearing them down, how could the edm-ers of boston expect to win this battle though?

okay rant over.

rumor has it that select weekend nights will be edm towards the end of the year

you know that's sad. when i was at tufts i was out at avalon was my spot! aside from oakenfold in 2000 god only knows who i heard spin back then because i was a total n00b but whoever i heard i loved it. that's complete bull shit that you don't have a big club dedicated to edm each week. its sad really especially for a city the size of boston with the number of young people a lot of them international who enjoy edm not just hip hop.

/rant

yea def, and the estate is not booking EDM DJs anymore either, so as or right now there is pretty much no where to hold a larger scale event. there are of course smaller lounges/clubs... but no where to bring any big names... Suuuucks bc i reaaly want to move to boston once i graduate in may but i lived there all summer and found myself on the bolt bus to NYC almost EVERY weekend.. so it proved to me kind of ridiculous.. i spent sooo much money on rent only to leave every weekend to go to nyc hahah..

Although RISE has great events, not as much trance as I prefer but when they do bring trance its a great time. When i saw Randy & PVD at Marina Bay Beach Club that venue was cool, (minus the rain), in the summer that would be nice..

kingsizeboston is a new(ish???) promotions company in boston, they seem to be doing a lotta housey events but I have faith they will start booking trance... www.kingsizeboston.com

kingsize will be bringing your bigger named popular dj's such as David Guetta, Carl Cox etc...pretty sure they will bring at least one or two trance acts here in the next year too

As far as the scene in boston goes, there is simply not enough demand like there used to be fora club the size of Avalon, as sad as that is its true.

What boston needs is a similar style club to Cielo, like 4-600 capacity with a nasty sound system..imo
