big blow to tourism
90 to 100 million $ in revenue in 4 days... gone...
How to replace that ? (as was asked on the news. tourisme quebec suggested X-Games and Red Bull airshow... i don't think so.)
i think even more.
with the current financial climate...tourism will already be down.
race fans are race fans...they would have came anyway because it was their only option in north america.
you need to book luciano on a monday
The whole freakin' country is run by amateurs
From governement to businesses ... people just dont understand

in the end
$$$$$$ talks
shit what a slap in the face to monty
At the end of the day, Montreal was the only F1 remaining managed and promoted by a private person (Legault), I tip my hat to him for managing and running this all these years without asking any money from the govts.
The rest of the grand prix around the world are just big governmental sponsorized events, making them more into a PR stunt for their respective country than a for profit enterprise.
When others are there NOT to make any money, how are you supposed to compete with that?
Our only hope is that the provincial and city govt take the lead and create a non-profit corporation to run this and inject around 40-50m$ a year, indexed at 10% yearly as per FIA contracts.... 50m$, 55$, 61m$, 67m$...
they can't even give people the ability to have a family doctor malek.
hello mexico north.

gillette entertainment has been working on the x games btw, and they will come to montreal, but it is not even close in terms of revenue.
hard if not impossible to replace that, Canadiens better win the cup,ill go buy a jason hockey mask, draw the habs sign on it, chainsaw with the colors of the habs. Seriously i dont see how the race can be held in montreal for 2009. The schedule's already announced, if turkey's (hmmmmm, with gravy) officials are involved, yeah i know its Bernie, but i wouldnt test them and say "sorry dudes, these guys just offered me more, so im out!", but it is Bernie and its money, so he would probably do it. Like someone said, if the government doesnt get involved in this, strip bars are gonna go bankrupt (hahahaha thats not going to happen, strip bars, bankrupt,ha!).
For the government to create an organization, they'd have to "legitimize it" with regulation (new regulation or finding one that fits) .since it would probably be managed by the government,at first there would be a few mils injected out of nowhere in there, hopefully if the goverment can stay on that positive run and manage to not get too much in deficit with overall spendings, no major consequences. Not sure it could be managed by the city, would have to come mostly from its pockets(help from provincial gov,has to be approved or part of a pre-established program, federal through provincial would be sweet, complaining would follow from others) , at least there would be less problems creating it,but its going to translate into a tax raise for sure at the end for us (spending 60mil for a 4 day event...),and would still have to go through some rough process -- Other problem is we have to find the law with the right regulation to make it all look legit. In Quebec, to change one word in a law, takes minimum 6 months...we're screwed. They cant directly sponsor this, it has to be part of a program or federal ships some disguised money.
Best case is another private investor that picks it up or Legaults gets some backup (goverment or anything), lot less problems. Maybe in exchange of some promises or exchange with the government, its the only way i see it happening. Or a crap load of sponsors that comes in hopes of getting some payback at the end,but there's so much money you can make out of the F1.
the last thing we want is the federal govt involved. They'll find some kind of formula to have it split with Oakville or some other city in Ontario for fairness... in a few years, it'll be completely held there.

this also has a lot to do with F -1 concentrating on markets that have 0 interest in Nascar.
I do not think there are big enough sponsors in Quebec outside of the Tobacco or Alcohol spectrum to entice with the cash.
I just can't see the Cirque Du Soleil Grand Prix De Montreal happening.
dude, there's no sponsors anywhere in the world that would drop 30-40m$ just to have their name on an event that lasts a weekend. Sponsors drop a few millions, the rest of the money is coming from the governments.
tobacco would.

useless to debate for pages and pages
it's gone, in the past, no F1 anymore
lol
scary thing is, if it weren't for the dollar, the Habs would be gone too. I wrote a paper on hockey economic in '01, only the Leafs were healthy at the time. Go figure, our worst team was our healthiest.

i was just stating a company that would throw millions at events, i know it could not happen.
look how many F 1 drivers are going to Nascar nach...there is a lot of money in it, its growth is a lot bigger than F 1.
