Yeah, it all pretty much falls under the "Mediterranean food" umbrella with slight differences in naming and spices.

Ya, but Italian or Spanish could be called Mediterranean too, but are quite different as far as food goes. Or maybe as far as 'stereotypical' food goes, anyway.

Newsflash: Berlin is in fact the second biggest "Turkish" city after Istanbul! Much like New York City is the second biggest Jewish city after Tel Aviv. Considering that Turkish food in Turkey as different from Berlin Turkish food as is your local Chinese restaurant from original Beijing cuisine (that entire "Kebab" phenomenen is not really known in the homecountry itself) it's a fair statement to make

Also there's a difference between Turkish kebab, Greek gyros and Arab/Israeli shawarma.

Good point I suppose, I never thought of Italian and Spanish food as Mediterranean.

Yeah ok, thanks for the 'newsflash' mate It's still not what I would call obvious though. Having never been to Germany, you'll have to forgive my ignorance. Austria is 'obviously' a little closer to Berlin that Australia

Australia has pretty good kebabs, but I agree with an above poster- Germany has amazing kebabs. I like the bread better there.

No way, the "private owned" pizza places here in Sweden are the best! Usually made by Iranians (their kebab is the bomb) or Turks. They know their shit!

I went to NYC a few years ago for the first time, and the absolute first thing I did was find a pizza place. It was really my main intention of going there. Om nom nom.

At my sisters there is this farmers market on Thursdays. There is this Turkish kebab stand there. They had some of the best kebabs I have ever had. My brother in-law makes them just as good, but man these were rivaling his.

the best pizza in the entire US is made here --

just a little shack built onto the side of a strip mall in Shrub Oak, NY and run by 2 old Italian guys. i have never had better pizza. i imagine it's only rivaled by pizza in Italy which i still have yet to try (airport pizza doesn't count although that was pretty amazing as well).

That place looks like it was a former shack...that has had little improvement.....

....But that is usually where some of the best food ever is.
