^ derndalls (sp?) are the best thing about Oktoberfest.

Posted by LKD on Oct-08-2008 18:38:

Dirndl....

i think the lederhosen rocks more..

Posted by smuncky on Oct-08-2008 18:39:

it's dirndls.

just for that, i'm posting another pic.

Posted by LKD on Oct-08-2008 18:42:

^^^^^^ that looks more like a Halloween party

Posted by mickmack on Oct-08-2008 20:19:

i will definately be there! we are hitting up concordia this saturday. we might do the parade on monday too even though its pretty brutal. just another excuse to drink though! lol

i've done the aud before, and bingemans but i'd say concordia is the best place to go if you are going for the first time. you'll have to get scalped tickets though because it's been sold out for months.

Posted by Endlesswave on Oct-08-2008 22:06:

I've been wanting to go to Kitchener for another reason spefically but this is just a great alternative. (Esp if things go sour).
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Posted by Yohan on Oct-08-2008 22:27:

I think I'm doing Concordia on Wed. Not sure yet

Posted by The Ear on Oct-08-2008 22:56:

Hey! Play nice kids. There is no need for hostility. Oktoberfest should be a time when we focus on booze and polka, not internet wrestling matches. Both of you need to wave the white flag and come drink, german style.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Oct-09-2008 02:01:

Okay so I'm looking at the Oktoberfest site and have no idea what I'm doing.

What's the good party to go to for serious Germanic drinking?

Posted by The Ear on Oct-09-2008 02:11:

Duder... if you live Cambridge & don't know this by now, I'm very concerned about your ability to leave your house lol.

That said, here are my fav's from my experience from growing up & attending university in KW: (in no specific order)

1) Concordia - it's the biggest, it's the craziest, & you'll need buy from scalpers to get in now

2) Schwaben - my favourite best food, imported kegs (none of that Molson Canadian bullshit), & dirndls a plenty; smaller venue, so eventually you get to know everyone in the place; & it's the home of the "sobriety test" the chicken dance played & danced in reverse (gotta love the brothers Ofack in the band!!!!)

3) Queensmount - home of Walter Ostanek, the King of Polka, and a solid gender ratio... beware of spillage on the floor, as every year there are a number of beer spill slippage related head injuries

4) The Aud university students everywhere... kind of like an Oktoberfest pick up bar if that's what you're looking for

5) Bingemanns - good old total gong show

After careful consideration, I'd be hard pressed to be convinced to go anywhere other than those 5... the Alpine club isn't bad, but outside of the above, you're better off waiting until next year & going to one of those.

The lucky bastard.

anyways...

Polkas are invented by the Czechs... so I like to be festive, and remind the Polaks it's not theirs, and it's another thing that the Germans can't take credit for.

Hm, noted.

So, which party is everybody gonna go to? Is it possible to decide on one for the last weekend or something that we all attend, or is it too late for that?

you need to plan way in advance for tickets nowadays

True.

Your best bet would be to swing by Hans' Haus. Wow...I haven't lived in Kitchener for 5 years now... I think it's still at the corner of Charles St. & Benton St. ... had to use Google Earth to double check that was the intersection it used to be at.

Hans Haus has whatever remaining tickets there are for any of the fest-halls. But they're tapping the keg tomorrow, so I'd recommend you head down there today.

Posted by Playa24_7 on Oct-09-2008 11:27:

I like in Cambridge and I've still never been to Oktoberfest....fack! lol

Posted by Abercrombie on Oct-09-2008 12:44:

you need tickets? I figured it's something to just drop by in or something.

Posted by The Ear on Oct-09-2008 12:58:

Tickets for Concordia Club sell out in July.

Most of the others are gone by September.

You can still get tickets; they always hold a bunch back until just before the events. I know there are tickets available for Altes Muenchen Haus (Queensmount Arena) with Walter O on Saturday. Also, there are a bunch of lesser known venues that you can pretty much always grab a ticket for... Heidelberg Haus (moses Springer Arena) is a good example. Swing by the web site to order tickets or just stop by a venue near the start time (usually in the 6-8:30 range for Friday or Saturday nights) and you'll probably find a bunch of people selling tickets for friends that couldn't make it. Mrs. Hazard goes every year and has only once bought an advance ticket.

Any of you Torontonian's making the treck down?
Who's going to what?

You can't go wrong with a week that celebrates beer drinking and schnitzel.

If I was still living in Waterloo, I'd go wit you Lopers! IN A MILLISECOND! <3

Alas...

Oktoberfest = best weekend(s) in Waterloo/Kitchener area!

NOTHING beats drinking in massive halls sitting on picnic tables hearing polka music (lol) ... and then imagine doing it like 4-5 times in a week .
