I did this

i wonder if all other likely wmc attendees did...

I don't think most people do that (though I reserved the last 2 weeks as well). The rates are going to be pretty high throughout March partially due to Spring Break. Though WMC is the pinnacle of March for the Miami Hotel Industry.

So cute R!CH....

That settles it! Moon, here I come!

Posted by serch54 on Oct-16-2008 01:05:

lol @ moon landings...

I spent $1300 when I went to Miami for 5 days. We pre-bought tix to all the events we knew we were going to hit and saved hundreds. We also stayed at the Days Inn up on 22nd street.. I didn't give an F because I was only in the room for maybe 18 hours. party after party after party after party after par......

Posted by rudeflame on Oct-16-2008 01:09:

I think i've stayed everywhere when it coems to wmc...persons house, north miami beach, south beach by 9th/ocean, around 30th street...all nice areas...

my one complaint was when i wanted to do the pool parties...when i got to my hotel i was beat i coudlnt move...

i feel if i had stayed at shelborne or surfcomber...id have partied EVEN MORE...

has anyone stayed at the shelborne or surfcomber and would you recc. it?

Posted by rizo on Oct-16-2008 01:09:

since i promised to be in SF during bpm conference i guess ill go to this instead, well hopefully

Posted by djjoshuaallen on Oct-16-2008 01:09:

haha fuckin rich, im going to the moon in 2010.

I already got my room booked through my company, at the four points miami beach, fuckin $69 per night!! Awaiting the W south beach to open, as i may be able to score there if it opens in time.

we are doin tues-tues this year, its goin off!

Posted by element-y on Oct-16-2008 03:24:

Surfcomber and shelbourne and other hotels with pool events that arent free like the national hotel are great places to chose to stay at, however, they cost so much year round. No matter when you book the hotel, even the day after WMC, the rate usually isnt different for next spring break.

Where do most TA's usually stay at? I tried last year to get people to post what hotels they are in so TA meetups could be easy to do, but not many wrote in, besides writing that they are going.

I would recommend staying away from the beach plaza hotel. The website made it look great and it has music events but the place SUCKED!

Sick hookup! If the W Miami Beach does open (says March 1st), maybe you can sell the other room to a fellow TA?

Looks like this year is more expensive. Last year we scored a round trip ticket to Fort Lauderdale for $300 and South Beach Studio Condo for $200 a night.

Looks like the flight will cost around $500 this year.

Sneaker Pimp

We gotta have a meet up... I will wear a shirt that says Tommyfromla u can spot me in Miami....

Everyone should make shirts with their TA name since that's how most of us know each other........

Posted by JohnnyMonsoon on Oct-16-2008 05:39:

Got the promoter to book my room today, woot!

I'd love to try and meet up with more TA's this time round!

do you work for Sheraton?

I stayed there last year & got the same rate! my buddy works for Sheraton, he scored me his "family" pricing & that shit saved me a ton! when i checked in, they gave me a 50% off all meals @ the main restaurant there, so that was nice as well!

the 2 yrs prior i stayed right next door @ The Fontainebleau which is an amazing hotel, i hav a diff friend who works for Hilton & scored a 1500 sq ft 2-bed/3 bath condo w/a living/dining/bar, full kitchen w/full size fridge/freeze, oven/stove, micro, & washer/dryer in the unit for $149/nite, but couldnt score it last year because of some technicalities

we would have the most amazing pre & after parties there... so much fun!

ive already talkd to my "hilton" friend & its lookn pretty damn good that we'll be stayn there this year, but not for the $149/nite. that's cool, cuz w/as many peeps that are stayn there it's still gona be inexpensive!

so many fukn parties, i cant wait!

people who went last year will attest, attendance (to me) was off about 25% vs previous years

considerin what's goin on w/the economy, i wonder what it will be like this year

not complaining... it was nice to have a place to dance, whereas in past year's it was a sardine fest!

aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh yesssssssssssss!!!! i'll be there front and center! i never miss it now that i know

and the last 3 years i've stayed with my cousin who lives on south beach so that has always saved me tons of $$$ but he sold his condo this past year, whomp whomp. oh well, i have quite a few friends who are going and will stay with them cheap somewhere. besides, i only need a room to shower and hold my things

and if you know for sure which parties you are going to pre-sales save you tons as well!!!!! i don't drink that much at clubs so that also saves me $$. i do miami pretty cheap every year, outside of the cost of the room. i was born in miami and lived there until i was 6 so it's kinda my hometown although i grew up in atlanta

can't wait until i hit the first pool party

I work for starwood hotels. They own the Brands of Sheraton, Westin, W, St Regis, Le Meridian, Luxery Collection, Four Points, etc.

yea, the %50 off food and bev works well too. I have taken huge advantage of that since i have worked for them, got the hook up on 5 star hotels all over europe last year and got to pay the $69 in dollars not euros, saved my life!

Yea i have heard the W is behind schedule, so I will be at the sheraton, until sunday, then heading to the Le Meridian Sunny Isles to recover for a few days, score!

yep yep, i hope SL has Jamie Jones play again this year! some friends of mine have a condo they rent out on the beach, and if its not rented during the conf. i'll get to stay there for free *crosses fingers* otherwise, it'll be the hotel clinton for me, LOVE that hotel.

thats my thought exactly as well. ive done WMC 3 times now and while its an unreal week of partying and events, id rather head back to my second trance energy 2 weeks prior and then make my first pilgrimage to ibiza this summer!

Posted by California LT on Oct-16-2008 18:37:

You can definitely do WMC on the cheap...

- Flight from SF $300 (book more than 2 months out...many more).

- Who hangs out in their room at WMC? We stayed in a 6 person hostel room for like $25/person/night with a bunch of friends. If you have a group of friends then you don't have any security concerns with your belongings. There are some nice hostel options in SoBe on Collins and Washington and it's fun b/c you get to meet a lot of cool people from overseas who are obviously all about the music hanging out in the bar and on the patio. Last year we dropped $150/person (w/tax) for 4 nights. Having said that, we're going for the week and getting a private room.

- Party Tickets ~ $300 should be enough for 5 big shows (we did 4 big shows and 1 boat party). We saved hundreds by pre-buying tickets. Also, there are lots of free (beatport) pool parties around.

- food, drinks, cabs, eTC can vary by the person. There are lots of really tasty and affordable places to eat (when you actually do eat), but drinking can get pricey.

WMC is one of my favorite times of the year and I'm looking forward to meeting up with some TAs this year.

Posted by skell on Oct-16-2008 18:50:

WMC is not the time to penny pinch imo. (for us West Coasters) Treat it like a vacation. You have enough time to plan for it, so do it!

But if you want to do it on the cheap, then by all means get creative. I think the key here is to never wait until the last minute, unless you can afford the luxury of doing whatever (financial planning, see above )
