I thought the English version was bad.. But the american version was terrible.

Amongst all the other classic comedies I think one of my favourite in the last decade has to be Phoenix nights. I also really enjoyed League of Gentleman series!

phoenix nights was comic genius , shame it got to peter kays head and his relationship with dave spikey falterd after kay started to hog the limelight.

I'd go along with this too, never really found it all that funny. It's very simple humour which is why it's popular but there's much better stuff out there.

The league of gentleman as people have mentioned was good to start with. Alan Partridge is one of the best british comedies though :-
