I don't understand all of the fuss...no one really jumped on him after he apologized. People were making silly comments, not directed at him or were discussing the issue he spoke of. Only one person quoted the thread starter, after his apology.

Fair enough...it just seems that people left him alone for the most part after his explanation.

Heh, seems like you know the armpit of Canada aka Windsor pretty well.
None of those area are particularly dangerous, but not the hbets place on Earth either.

On a side note, we had our first ever car-bombing here in Croatia last week

Terminology and social interaction in most places in the world would outright offend most canadians. As i see it, the problem is not with them. It's with the fact that we are willing to stress out over every little politically incorrect term or joke or expression. I learned this lesson while living in argentina. People will call each other gordito or "little fatty" to fat people as a pet name and its acceptable. Or "negrito" (little blackie) to those latins with darker skin. In fact everyone has a pet name to a degree. I was "el importado" (the imported) or "yanqui de hielo" (ice yankee). Imagine calling those types of names to an immigrant in canada? Yikes!

BTW i never understood the big deal about the west side of windsor. I used to walk through there at night by myself all the time and never even saw a cracked out homeless bum. I assume because its a lower income area there are probably more domestics that go on there but otherwise i didnt feel any worse than walking down most streets in toronto.

Posted by Ozmozis on Oct-30-2008 13:30:

LOL!

I guess if the "negro" family I'm renting out my house to in Windsor decide not to pay rent I shouldn't go bug them then eh?

Right.... anyways...

Why don't cabs just go NY style...

So then why jump on him, when the OP immediately apologized, and stated their lack of knowledge for socially acceptable terms. As much as it may surprise people here, calling someone a negro is only inacceptable in North America. Do it anywhere else, and there is no derogatory connotation with it.

Exactly and it was the same way here until political correctness took over. I dont know what the big deal is over "negro" as it is the original word for black in the english language from latin and still exists in spanish and i believe portuguese as well.

But "black" is fast becoming offensive as well. Even though im pretty sure that not every black person is "african" nor "american".

There's no crime or murder in Cambridge.

Except the traffic on Franklin. Which they want to solve by replacing every single stoplight with a roundabout.

HOWZABOUTDAT

Really ? well i dont here about murder .. but i have been witness to enough crime in galt and having to call the cops on locals

I never once jumped on him...

I was just saying why I though what he said could be offensive.

I personally see no problem with calling a person a 'negro'

What bothered me was that he said a Canadian and a negro.... as if the Negro was not a Canadian. There are many countries where you are not a truly recognized citizen if you have a different skin colour...

If he said a white girl and a negro girl I dont think anyone would have said anything.

This lady speaks the truth.. Where Windsor has a couple not so pleasant spots, practically half the city of Hamildump is a goddamned ghetto.

I was taking a statement from a guy who owns a Landscaping Business....and he referred to his seasonal help as "His Mexicans". Never did he refer to them as seasonal help...just His Mexicans and it didn't phase him one bit.

I love writing shit like that in statements for work.

HELL YES!! Lease, I hope you don't think I'm driving here for our date

Posted by revival on Oct-30-2008 21:33:

Hold on a second. Was this the cab driver that was assaulted by 2 girls? Something doesn't seem right about the story when i read it in the paper. My condolances to him and his family and get well wishes of course. That being said I would like the whole story sometime soon.

Regardless violence of any kind is wrong. Now on to the question is Windsor dangerous?
Ide have to say No. Our crime rate is low, and thats saying something especially since were so close to one of the world's top crime cities. That being said Windsor is probably the most depressed economy in the country right now. People tend to get desperate and do some crazy things to keep food on the table, heck the Big 3 out here are set to become the big 0.

I don't ever feel unsafe here.
