That was on of the biggest differences I always noticed when in Montreal...the crowd stays late. Stereo would still be packed at 10AM and at Sonic there would be less than a handful of people by 8AM.

Damn I need a Montreal weekend. Hopefully (but I doubt it) Stereo reopens and brings some life back to the Montreal scene.

Unfortunately I think I've only seen trance DJs spin marathon sets. Ferry multiple times and Armin 2 or 3 I believe.

Who I'd like to see? Sasha & Digweed. Yes.

Posted by Prometheus Xex on Nov-02-2008 16:18:

Talk about a coincidence... I'm playing Armin Solo Amnesia Ibiza 6hr Set from 11am to 5pm.

I think that marathon sets are alright, but it seems that a DJ would have to throw in possible filler crap to account for the excessive time. I could be wrong, but I think it be hard to keep the ppl on their toes without having many lows.

Posted by VDub on Nov-02-2008 16:19:

You have to be kidding me...

MO used to play 9-10 hr sets every Saturday before they started bringing guests in all the time...

These once in a while marathon sets don't impress me...

For the money these guys get paid...every set should be a long one...

You have a point there.

Right, 9-10 hours of utter boredom. I knew some queerboat would bring up Mark Oliver, just wasn't sure who was going to be the ballwasher this time around.

Anyway, you really can't count local DJs. For one thing, the club isn't going to bother paying for opening and closing performers for a nobody, and locals also don't have to contend with traveling and jet lag. Also, not being in such high demand, they're always going to have to work longer hours to earn their paycheques.

Marathon sets on a tour are unique; marathon sets for a local are your standard 8-hour clock punching like any other job, just at a different time of day.

Not saying that none of the locals are any good, just that you can't compare.

Jesus christ shut up, is this really necessary? The thread is about marathon sets, so who cares who is spinning said set? I realize what you're getting at here but sweet blue blazing goddamn what a waste of words. It's one thing to chirp somebody about a post in their thread, it's another to belittle them for absolutely no reason.

You really need to tone down your stupid fuckhead elitist posting, I'm sure many others on here are also growing tired of it, even if nobody else will mention it.

Toronto locals are World class and they've managed to save many nights from the so called international/over paid talent.

been there, seen it, many times over the years...

I remember one time MO being told to "calm it down" as his opening set was too strong for the upcoming world DJ waiting his turn... LOL!

more like slowing it down...

but yeah, that happens more often than you think!

Stupid if you ask me, if they're getting paid that much, they might as well bring their "A" game

True enough Shaya! Personally I want a kick-ass set no matter who's up. If the next DJ up can't cut it and keep up to the last (no matter who they are), then fuck off and let someone on who can follow though!

It was probably because he was playing too hard for an opening set and the opening DJ was getting pissed off, and rightfully so. He probably wanted to build his set, and Mark was going to force him to start harder than he wanted to.

"Hard/fast" does not mean good. In fact, it means bad if you're an opening DJ IMO (in most cases).

Reread his post and you'll see that it's hardly "no reason." In fact, the post I responded to was incredibly elitist in tone, and if the response hurt your little feelings then that's just too bad.

I'm tired of moronic comments following the general format of "Oh you losers will only go out to see international superstars and that's why we can't get a proper scene going, those guys are all a bunch of overpaid showboaters and our locals are way way better!" In fact, I've been tired of those dumbass comments for years. Yeah, our locals are "world class", sure, they're just not well-connected enough or aren't really into the whole touring thing, yeah, that's it. Oh, except deadmau5 who actually is getting international bookings, and the same people who big up our locals can't get on the hate boat fast enough. It's honestly so utterly transparent.

Look, if he'd just responded with "I've been to a bunch of 8-10 hour Mark Oliver open-close sets" I wouldn't have said a damn thing. I don't think I would have even thought about saying anything. I only responded to the smarmy "OMG you guyz must be kidding MO does Marathon sets EVERY WEEK LOLZ what do these dudes get paid for anyway!?!?!??!!!one" BS.

You post a lot of asinine douchebaggery here too but I don't target you personally over it and claim to speak for the rest of the forum. If you have a problem with what I said, feel free to debate it, but if you have a problem with me, fucking get over it buddy, and don't think that posting a "get out" animated GIF that's already been posted 45,137 times on this forum is going to earn you any points.

Graham/Jon, sorry for the off-topic rant, but there was no way I was going to let that one slip by.
