well i started listining to trance in like december of 1999 before that i was lisning to limp bizkit, korn, nirvana, dmb, ratm, tool and shit like that but one day in the summer of 1999 on the radio i heard dj jean - the launch i was like hmm thats preety good then i hear the same song for week after week trying to find the name and artist of that song turns out in december of 1999 i find it and download it off napster (napster was new at the time) then i just searched trance cuz in the genre in the id3 tag of the mp3 the genre was trance so i searched that then paul oakenfold came up and boom thats where my trance addiction came.

Smoking ..umm..something

'till the beginning of 1998 I was a huge Prodigy fan.. I had all their singles, albums.. I had posters of them on my room's wall.. I even made a web-page about them and stuff.. I saw them live once.. Some good trance artists warmed them - Juno Reactor, 808 State and some local DJs.. so then I found out about Goa and started listenning to it, I still love Goa, but now I'm more into club/trance music.. I don't listen to Prodigy at all now, because I think it's kids-music.. "Smack My Bitch Up" is still a brilliant track though!

Rap...Tu Pac, Dmx, Biggie..etc
and Pop music I am ashamed to say...

Posted by Dwingo on Mar-26-2001 21:13:

I used to listen to gabber and rap music before my interest in trance took a run with me. I've been into trance for about 2 or 3 years now I think and enjoyed every single moment of it.

i used to listen to dance and some pop but that was really short lived. i discovered trance and other types of electronic music (dnb, techno, jungle, etc) a few months later. mannn...i was hooked to this shiznit.

Arrow

This might take some time

In the 80's I was a huge fan of 80's pop (A-ha), Rock (INXS, Robert Palmer, etc..) .... You name it I liked it, except for country and hard rock..... I have also always been a huge fan of ABBA and much of the Disco era music, Earth wind and fire, Electric Light Orchestra, etc....

I also love the old rock, Pink Floyd (great trip music), Led Zepp, etc....

I have always been a fan of classical music, opera, and even stage musicals (andrew lloyd webber)...

In the late 80's early 90's I got into hip-pop, old school rap in a big way... I was always into the Dance music, I am even today, even euro-pop

But it was the early 90's when I got introduced to Techno music and I liked it right away.. I used to buy these really expensive import CD's from HMV in Calgary of the Techno CD's... Nobody I knew liked the music, so I found myself only listening to it alone at home

But Trance became my passion eventually, I still love pretty well any music, I am just very passionate about music as an art form and I will never judge a song based on its "classicfication", rather I judge each song on its own merits regardless of if its cool or uncool to like it....

well thats my story

Cheers,

Thor......

i was into r&b and hip-hop b4. i still kinda listen to it once in a while, but it's mostly all trance and techno now

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Mar-26-2001 22:50:

wow, i'm amazed to see how many trancEaddicts here were converted from rock, hip-hop, and other stuff like that. heheh. cool! way to go guys!

Posted by Thor on Mar-26-2001 23:05:

I don't see why it has to be a conversion Lynx, maybe its best called "Evelution" ... I mean earlier music forms are what lead up to Trance, why abandon other forms of music to enjoy one specific range of music...

I love movies, would I only allow myself to enjoy horror movies? Well I know its tempting, but I would of course be crazy to ignore the other genres of film

Same goes for music, if you only listen to Trance and forsake all other music you're doing yourself harm IMO

I'm not saying you do Lynx, but I know many that are very stubborn about music and only allow themselves to believe that one certain style of music is the only one that can be good

Sorry for the rant....

Cheers,

Thor.....

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Mar-26-2001 23:08:

heheh, no problem Thor! 'ppreciate the rant.

yeah i can understand. i'm stubborn about ma music and think trance is the almight god of every type of music and that it's smiteful musical hand shall determine which genre of music shall be smolten. hehehe. just kidding bro.

what i was sayin' was just a statement at just how surprised i was. i guess that's just me. 'cause i was biased in the fact that i thought most trance lovers evolved from other forms of electronica. heh. but i guess i was wrong.

peace out-siddde-AHHH! as the azn's say it. err..the fobs rather.

Talking

Let me see:
At my earlies I listen to Heavy Metal: Iron Maiden. Metallica, Rob Zombie, Nirvana ==> Grunge really.
Ans you wont but wont believe this one I bought an Spice Girl album !!!!! :=( wasted $$$$
When I change to my new school my friend called "Nicols" NickName: Colo introduced me into Dance with Dj Time (aka Claudio Ferraro).
Then when we were talking throught icq he gave me the site called: Dj Mixes 2k (Sauron's Site, recently closed) and I started listen to mainly to Trance and some crappy Dance.
And that is my story. Amazing no ? If I hadn't change to my new school I have never ever being here writing this.
Bye Bye Peace

Hmm.. I liked alternative for some messed reason!! before alternative I liked house and the typical commercial dance music tho...

latez...

Posted by Don on Mar-27-2001 03:51:

I suppose in the 80s i listened to pure michael jackson, lionel richie...real classics...

The early 90-95 pure Euro beats...culture beat, alexia...of course real to real featuring the Mad Stump man and of course the man behind subliminal records, Eric Morillo....

After that I listened to pure Pvd, Robert Miles and Jean-Michel Jaerre (true trance originator)...

Posted by tc-fan on Mar-27-2001 04:35:

before i got addicted to trance i listen to freestyle, retro 80's and disco music (yeah i like disco).........also i like 80s bass music like Egyption Lover....

Posted by JM on Mar-27-2001 06:18:

other shitty music...

early ninties i used to listen to Dre and Snoop and Ice Cube and Easy-E and Bone for a long while, and sometimes i'd listen to some alternative shit too. I can't stand alternative but still own the rap cd's (just cant get rid of them even though i dont listen to them anymore). like tu_face said, cant turn our backs on the music roots... i remember trying to find techno and trance music back in mid nineties and being unsuccessful until i heard Robert Miles -Children on MTV and rushed to CDNOW to but the album and the single (my first ever trance CD )..

But since a few month my absolute favorite style is trance especially when I am driving around in my car there is no better music than trance

dam its hard to go from Metal to trance....usually its hip-hop but metal and trance is a big diff...
Now if someone else would go from Punk music to trance then they deserve a metal there...

Posted by Peter Campbell on Mar-28-2001 06:20:

Shame / Disagreement

How do you go from Heavy Metal to Trance, both styles go against each other. Do people listen to Trance for the music or the image???
