Yea hes def moving away from progressive into more electro-rock, cuts and blip blop.

its good actually lol

his costume makes him sound so awesome. I don't find him as good when he plays without it, even if it is the same tracks.

think daft punk, imagine they were just two guys with no masks, they wouldn't have gotten anywhere. the costumes add attitude

Posted by elFreak on Nov-07-2008 19:22:

that comparison is an insult to daft punk.

SIK!!!!

His new sound is awful but obviously the general public eats it up. Whatever works right? Bigger than Tiesto? Impossible. He is however the new symbol for our "YouTube" generation as far as EDM is concerned.

according to pete tong.. its not the 'youtube' generation but rather the 'download' generation!!!

what exactly about his new sound do you not like? and I really don't understand new sound versus old sound...

Everything. I will never be a fan of the "electro" sound. Theres simply no rhythm; that is of course according to my ears. I need melodies and sexy harmonics to get my feet moving. I should have clarified what I meant by old sound: Progressive House > new sound: Electro trash at its finest. As previously stated in this thread his latest track emulates Justice' sound almost identically. Not exactly original but like I said, whatever works... and right now any and everything he puts out is working.

I don't think he has been around long enough to have a new vs old sound....his sound is whatever is selling when he produces the track.

Genre splicing has been so evident since 2005 that what you might call "Progressive House" now could be "Progressive Trance" back then.
I'm not sure what you classify his sound as but to me the general feel will always be "Electro".

Live? No. Album? Yes.

Posted by activate on Nov-07-2008 21:15:

well then my next question would be, have you ever heard deadmau5?

lol

obviously there's simalarities, but the same can be said for 80% of dance music... but they aren't similar enough to say that one emulates the other.

Posted by Takayuki on Nov-07-2008 21:26:

Clearly misunderstood. I specifically meant THAT one track emulates Justice' Sound. Nothing else about Deadmau5 is similar to Justice in any way, shape or form. However, IF Joel does continue to put out tracks similar to Ghosts 'N Stuff then I would say his sound would emulate that of Justice'.
