Wow - I think you're taking this pedobear thing too far.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Sep-09-2009 18:23:

Or not far enough.

At the risk of being Literature Fag, a proper haiku is not merely about the syllable count. The first and second lines should evoke single images, which are brought together as a concept in the final line.

I think he's thinking it's funny because he's creating the illusion that he's a pedo, but in reality, he actually is a pedo.

Isn't he like 16 though? Whatever the case is, he's creepy and not funny.

Yeah, but I just wrote those in a few minutes to get some ideas out... just a throwaway exercise. I wanted to start understanding, creating, analyzing, critiquing and appreciating poetry on a higher level all of a sudden this morning (downloading great poems and looking at Amazon / Google).

Getting into Poetry is a bit difficult with all the CRAP ADVICE out there. I want to learn analysis and history as well. I'm thinking of reading critiques to get a good idea of how this all works.

I'm sure buying a few books on Poetics isn't going to be completely comprehensive but it's a start:

You should know I'm 5 years older than that, silly ****. Does that make this creepier and even less funny? Probably. I find this funny, though. So fuck what you think. You don't have a sense of humor. Whatever the case is, get my age right.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-09-2009 18:44:

I don't think it's possible to analyse poetry on anything but a "higher level", which is why it's the least popular form of literature.

Posted by Rose on Sep-09-2009 18:45:

lol someone is feeling a little sensitive today...

well, maybe you aren't 16 but you sure act like it.

This is correct. I was wondering why there was no easy to find, definitive go-to resource for poetry (like a Strunk & White or universally acclaimed "Poet's reference")

Even as a complete novice, I'm able to see that there are a lot of fucking assholes out there who have no idea what they're talking but still give advice and write books anyway.

Is there no trustworthy beginner's book? Some kind of classic? Or does everyone have to find their own way? I don't really mind doing that, but at the same time, I really wouldn't mind a shortcut...

Wrong, I act like a child... I wish I was a child again... hence the pedobear

(Now do you see the inner workings of my psyche?)

Wait, is it more socially acceptable to be a 16 year old pedo, or a 21 year old pedo?

Posted by Akridrot on Sep-09-2009 18:50:

The thing is, a 21 year old pedo could still prey on a 16 year old pedo. I don't care much for other 21 year olds, but hypothetically speaking, if I found a 16 year old boy who was into little girls/boys, I would take advantage of him. IF I was into that crap, which I'm not. All of this is a joke. A big internet joke.

Are you talking about reading poetry or writing poetry? There are plenty of books on how to write poetry. I have one, collecting dust.

As for reading it, there aren't any books teaching you how to analyse a novel or a film. The best way to read poetry at this "higher level" is to get a degree in literature.

Both... but if a serious study of literature covers it, then I should be fine. I was thinking of poetry as a completely different thing, not something that people who study literature specialize in. This will make my searching much easier.
