First come first serve.

I would rather know about a party sooner than later.

If the promoter wants the flyers and info added they can still post it in the thread... or go cry to Swamper and he will fix it.

Plus there are a lot of events that promoters never add to the event thread.... or wait till like a week before (which for some people that may not be enough notice). I would rather know 50% of the information from a non promoter, than know 0% from a promoter who fails at promoting.

If clubs want the element of surprise or want people to feel the anticipation of waiting... THEY SHOULD KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT!
Once the information is leaked I think its fair for it to be posted on TA (as long as it follows the 'two month rule')

Besides I dont really believe what you say above. I am more likely to go to an event if I know in advance... some people cant party every weekend all the time, some people have work, family, school, and more to balance.

I really think your theory is bs. Unless ofcourse the 'new party' is a BETTER party... than of course more people will go to it.

It was posted today.

If I was a huge Nick Warren fan I would be really upset as with short notice like that I can not go.

i think your theory is bs as well.
look how many people flood to a new venue, not because it is a better venue but simply because it is new. sort of the same idea.
also, i think one to two months in advance is perfect for posting events. three months is too much.

lol I think most people decide in the last minute for most events. They just like have different options and then decide last minute.

I think two months is good, otherwise it would get clutterred too much.

Definately. I posted a thread a week or 2 ago about it. Can't say I am a die hard fan but I have been itchin to see him live. From the historical significance of EDM evolving over the years I still believe he plays a true "progressive" sound.

/Thread Hi-Jack.

probably first time in toronto as well..

I never said anything about 3 months... and we arent talking venues (as there are rarely new venues) we are talking events in general.

Your argument is completely unrelated.

Two months is perfect but one/two weeks is not.

If an event isnt up yet and the event is less than a month away I do not see what the problem is with a nonpromoter posting the event.

And again... whats wrong with sharing excitement. This forum is about the music we all love. If someone finds out their fav DJ is coming to guv in 3 months I really so no issue with them creating a thread for it (not in the event thread). We all have the same love, we should be able to share and make other happy There are enough useless threads on here that have nothing to do with anything... people shouldnt get pissed off because someone is excited about music.

Circa promoters need to be fired. We all know it.
If I were you I would create a new thread for it with the flyer and proper title. Yes it breaks the rules, but Swamper is a smart man, he will delete the shitty one.

so we are arguing about two totally different things.
im talking about people posting events in the event forum and you're talking about sharing info outside of the event forum.

/end

No.

I was just trying to tie in your 3 month arguement.

(Thats why there was a lot of space inbetween points)

Ive been talking about non promoters posting in the event thread.

Have you not read anything?

Posted by Skipper on Nov-18-2008 20:29:

Circa is doing just fine with their existing promo strategy, properly posted events or not.
Clearly TA is not the make-it-or-break-it market. *gasp*

Posted by Intangible on Nov-18-2008 20:29:

Chinamon, why do you care? Is it because you promote yourself and therefore end up lossing money?

I dont know... thats why I was asking. I'm just trying to figure out why it bothers you so much that non-promoters post on the event thread.

i have no problem with non-promoters posting events in the event thread. i do have a problem when they dont supply any information.

It makes more sense to me that those working for the club or promoting the club should post. I only think this because the information should be correct. Word of mouth, or I saw it here heard it there might give misleading information to people.

However, I don't see a problem if someone posts in the main forum showing their excitement over a DJ coming to spin in Toronto. Gets people to talk about the music and past performances memories etc...

Nonetheless, if there is an event at a club and its not posted by a promoter or a person working for a club and there is like 2 weeks left before the event. It is a good idea for someone to tell people a little time before the event. This way at least people would be aware.

things get flooded then...

i think if the event isnt posted by a promoter then someone else can/should. once the relevant info is avail and is posted then delete the non-promoters thread. so basically what is going on right now. lol that got me nowhere
