If the pre-delay is set high enough you can avoid a more metallic sound.
To answer the OP original question:
These are the reverbs that get the most use in my tracks:
Logic Space Designer - Great convolution reverb, I use this more than anything else. As a bonus, its free if you are a Logic user. I don;t think I have ever heard a bundled reverb this good.
UAD Plate 140 - Also sounds fantastic, especially on drums.
Logic PlatinumVerb/GoldVerb - An old standard that still finds use from time to time.
CamelSpace Reverb - The built in Reverb on the CamelSpace plugin actually sounds surprisingly good considering its just an add on to a gating plugin. It sounds especially good if you are looking for that "soaked in reverb" type sound.
