my favorite part is that even though you had no intention of attending this party...you made the effort to check the reviews and then post your two cents, which was proclaiming yourself better then everybody that attended...

for someone who doesn't care...you sure went out of your way to let everyone else who doesn't care about you know what your opinion is...

the point im trying to make i guess is charlie brown is a douche

You hit the nail on the head. The techno music elitist never cease to amaze. Personally I find their sound boring and uninspiring and being in a room full of hipster douches with no female contingent is disturbing to me. And most of all the music lacks vibe and is NOT FUN. Dont get me wrong, to each their own, but dont come on here and post some condescending bullshit when your sound is singlehandedly torpedoing the scene and not expect some heat back. Im not a fan of guetta at all, he really does play too much anthem and vocal cheese for me, but morillo in my opinion plays a real nice balance of edm and plays for everyone in the room which is what its all about. plus these guys do bring some serious patch.

Actually no. I just cringe at the sight of grown men raising their hands to praise the lord for HOUSE MUSIC.

Not hating at all. In your defense you do openly admit to attending space every week and dropping illegal substances to make each and every week the party of the century. Therefore Morillo and Guetta could've been playing a banjo behind the decks and you'd still be creaming your pants the next day over it.

In Charlie Browns defense & in agreeance with you Matt... Morillo & Guetta are trendy & cheesy commercially pumped garbage..

I do agree minimal, Techno & Tech House can get a bit boring for the average clubber unless they are really tore up..

I must disagree though about the underground.. Underground sounds such as Fidget, Tech Funk & Dance Rock are far more satisfying to the ear than any of this vocal electro trance cheese & commercialism that most of the top 100 DJ mag guys pump out.. However at this point in time Actual "GOOD MUSIC" is only entertaining smaller rooms.. Which I actually prefer as the vibe is more friendly & intimate..

In case you haven't been to see a tech funk, Fidget or Dance Rock show there is plenty of good "Patch" in attendance.. You may not see quite as many Guidos like at a Morrillo event but I digress..

To sum up my post.. I THINK.. The Underground shows are far more fun than the Commercial shows.. Not that I don't have fun seeing the big commercial dj's..

Any straight man who was in attendance at this needs to either have a word with themselves or come out of the closet.

I watched the video also and I can't stand that type of pop/house music. Totally brings me down. IMO, most people who go to Morillo are just going to be seen.

Once in San Francisco, I was in line waiting to get into the Endup. It was Sunday morning about 1:30am. There was a ~45 yo dude in front of me. He was very thin and looked as if he had been to many, many parties in his life. He turned around and said to me, "If I can get in by 2am, I have to go to work at 6, so that will give me 4 hours to dance". I'll never forget that. He didn't give a shit about picking up women or impressing anyone. He just wanted to dance and enjoy himself.

in reply to charlie brown, ohms, and sman1005. i dont like guetta's sets either, morillo is usually cheesy as well, but at certain venues and times morillo throws down epic sets. i do like that track at :30 to 1:30 in the video, i dont care what you call it, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun to me and i would not be ashamed of fist pumping with the rest of them. anyone know the track id?

dont be quick to say people that go to morillo are there to be seen. tech/minimal parties are just as guilty of that, the only difference is they are more likely to be sausage fests.

ohms, what is this tech funk and fidget music you speak of? By dance rock do you mean like justice, boys noize, or the presets?

mattivi i agree the minimal/tech sound is torpedoing the scene, but not singlehandedly. what happens is when a certain sound gets noticed, every dj runs out and copies that sound. like with electro house, everyone played the shit out of that, and with minimal same thing has happened. it causes the dj to be one dimensional and not have much variety in their sound. it hurt the scene back then with electro and its hurting the scene now with minimal.

stevesto i agree. the problem with some of these guys post above is that they are painting with a wide brush. it cant really be argued that morillo who tours extensively and is a superstar dj plays his fair share of commercial tracks, hell he almost has to. and from what i heard his set this past weekend was unusually lame and commericial. ive seen the guy a lot of times at space and he has thrown down some of the best tech house sets ive ever seen with very little garbage. problem with some of these posters like charlie brown is they already have their minds made up that morillo is a clown and thats that. they havent seen what you, I, and few other older space cadets have seen. i feel sorry for them really ive seen some massive funk thrown down from the guy marathon sets that guys like Fidget would be lucky to ever duplicate. morillo at one point was a tech house god, and was considered somewhat "underground" till ibiza just blew his fame up. but these kids dont know history so, i digress myself. everybody is entitled to their opinion but rudeflame is right, to come on here and hate is just parochial and childish.

Dude, listen to yourself, you sound like an old man. My mind was made up with the likes of Morillo after having the misfortune of checking them out on occasion, only to be let down big time by a pile of stinking shit and horrific mixing thrown in for good measure. Good luck to him, his personality has and will carry him a long way, and lucky for him the gimps that attend his shows are clueless to good dj'ing/mixing/cutting edge electronic music.

Morillo's mixing was spot on that night. For djing 6 hours I didn't hear a train wreck.

Yeah I guess Justice & Boyz noize are about all MOST people REALLY know of Dance rock/ Indie Dance.. But there are a ton of really dope acts out there both Domestic & foreign pushing the genre... Examples: Chromeo, Jokers of the scene, treasure fingers, QG, misterio, Nathan Vice, ERol Alkan, MSTRKRFT, les petits pilous, etc etc etc...

Some Fidget house artists are: Switch, Jessie Rose, Trevor Loveys, Crookers, Stupid Fresh, TJR, Fakeblood, AC Slater, Dj Kue, Jon Pegnato, etc etc etc.. Its a Funky sound which hinges on huge quirky basslines, odd bleeps, strange edits & maybe an occasional hip hop vocal .. There is a ton & I mean a ton of this being produced domestically hear in the states mostly out of Chicago, NY & Cali but there are fidget artists popping up everywhere including Florida... In a sense it is an offshoot from Electro house.. I predict that the fidget sound will get a fair representation at the WMC this year..

Some tech Funk artists are: Elite Force, Meat Katie, Lee Coombs, 30hz, Dopamine, Madox, Hyperion, Introspective, Zodiac Cartel etc, etc, etc... Tech Funk is a unique blend of Techno, Breakbeats, & straight up dirty nasty house music.. To me this is the sound of the future.. It is basically an anything goes genre.. I dig it..

Check some of these artists out... You won't have any problems googling them..

For the record.. I have no problem getting down to guys like Morillo.. What I have a problem with is paying a ton of money to see a show that isn't as good musically as one I could see for $10 bucks..

yes i know crookers and like a few of their tracks. they have a crazy alcohol fueled circus sound. i didnt know this was a whole seperate genre i thought it was just 2008 sound of electro house. i actually have a folder on my computer where i lump crookers with mstrkrft, justice etc because it seems similar to me. another artist is zombie disco squad, ever hear of them? so would this be considered fidget house?:

meat katie and lee coombs im aware of, they've always been just breaks artists as far as ive known. so tech funk is really just the new breakbeat? after listening to their latest releases it still sounds like breaks (shrug). can you post some listen links for some tech funk?

Posted by Ohms on Dec-03-2008 06:07:

Tech Funk is not really breaks at all... The beats are closer to house & Techno than breaks.. But yes there is a breaks influence..

Check it..
