If it's trance you like I have some records I can give you to get back on your feet when you get to Toronto

there are a few options here depending on the details...

If he is a student away from home while studying then it is likely that he will have coverage for his contents under his parents' homeowners policy. In that event his parents' insurer would respond to his loss and then subrogate (fancy way of saying cross-claim) against the crazy bitch who started the fire.

If his friend were to pay him for the damaged equipment and then claim this under his own tenant's package as voluntary property damage it could go two ways.... if the nutty broad is listed as an insured on the policy then the claim would be denied (as it was an intentional act by an insured), if she is not listed but considered to be insured because she resides there then it would be denied for the same reason, if she is not considered an insured then it could be paid subject to the VTPPD limits (generally in the 2K range).

im all about the Trance...that would be so awesome if you could do that for me.

for everyone else talking about insurance policies, here is the kicker; the owner of the property is a dealer of sorts, rent is on a month to month with no signed papers. further up the hill is where the owner lived.
im not a student, i was working in carpentry and dangerous tree removal.
he didnt have content coverage in any way. the owner of the property didnt have insurance (i believe)

its a very tricky situation.

I actually had a claim where the insured's ex wife, who was still listed on the insurance policy but not living at the house, came into the house and lit herself on fire in the front hall. She burnt up pretty good but the only fire damage to the residence was where she collapsed to the ground. The biggest problem was the smoke and burnt flesh smell that was everywhere.

We recommended denying the claim because she was still a listed insured on the policy but the insurance company decided to pay for repairs because there was enough evidence to show that she no longer lived there. Personally, I think the insurance company decided to pay this claim as they were also a part of the Whitton lawsuit and this wasn't that long ago after that decision.

numark ttx1 (x2), pioneer cdj-800 (x2), allen and heath xone 32 mixer, serato with vinyl and cds, mackie active top treble ends (x2), mackie active lower ends (x2), and lots of records.

i saved the macbook pro (newest version) cause i wanted to dl more muzik yest for a show i was to be in tonight. lucky me i took it to work.
so much for that.

i went by the wreckage about 30mins ago.
there is insurance but only enough to cover half of damages.i talked to the owner of the property and he said to return in an hour. so 1300hrs my time; 1600hrs your time in toronto.

my buddy was there too, he looks as lost as i do. his gf is still in custody.
he has his wits about him tho.

physically i am fine, mentally its gonna take some time.

Posted by Yohan on Nov-21-2008 20:03:

ouch. that's a decent setup.

i feel your pain dude

Posted by DJM104D on Nov-21-2008 20:11:

it took a long time to accumulate all of it. my heart is broken.

its just so fucked, when i walked upstairs i remembered everything that happened.
flames in my face, sheet of smoke, all the yelling and confuzion, how hot it was, my buddy and i switching off with the garden hose pointing toward the roof above the setup.

there is nothing left.

bonus tho, i found one of my leafs jerseys. the home jersey. its a little wet and a little dirty with now burn holes, but i know the away jersey cant be that far off.
made me smile.

Of all the things to survive a leafs jersey...........the story keeps getting worse /jk

Sorry for your loss.

i just went back...the insuance guy was there taking pictures.
something felt terribly wrong about everything. i went with a friend of mine and she felt it too. a truck drove up and parked in front of our suv (my friend and i) and then the jeep came down. we were boxed in. there was no way i was getting out of the truck without a clear path out of the driveway. my buddy asked us to move up 6inches so that the jeep could move up. why does that matter? the house is torn to nothing. if that was to happen we wouldve been boxed right in with no way out. i got the guy in the truck to move, in fact, he left. we pulled out to the road and left my buddy and the owner of the jeep at the site. i was calling the owner of the property and the owner of the jeep, no answers. im not going anywhere if i feel my security is being jeopardized. so we left. as we were driving off we saw smoke comming from the site. i know that everything was out. i know this cause here in bc the fires are fierce. so its one of those when the fire dept leaves you know for damn sure that the fire and all possiblities are dealt with. they started a fire at the site.
im not going back. i think some things are better left far and alone.

this chick tried to set herself on fire, and burned down her bf's place

that's just crazy and worthy of my scorn

Posted by DigitalMP on Nov-21-2008 23:21:

That's arson. She's responsible for whatever damages are caused as a result of a fire she intentionally set.

Well, maybe not arson, unless they can prove she had criminal intent, but she would be financially responsible based on criminal negligence.

Posted by The Wiz on Nov-21-2008 23:22:

I don't give a shit if you scorn I'm just saying it's pretty tacky. She obviously has issues.

unless she is declared mentally insane, i don't give a shit what her issues are either.

clearly there are better ways of dealing with your problems. burning down houses just isn't it

she torched the place while we were at work. it was either gasoline (class 2) or diesel (class 5) that was used. really what she was trying to do was self-immolation (? not too sure on spelling there, think im right tho). it is where you kill yourself via fire.

thats what was going on. mental instabilities.

Posted by me@t k@tie on Nov-22-2008 00:02:

Wow. What a sad, crazy story. It's horrible that this happened to you, but just be glad that what you lost is replaceable.

That girl sounds REALLY unstable, to say the least. Do you know if she was diagnosed with any sort of mental illness before this all took place?

Posted by The Ear on Nov-22-2008 00:10:

Good luck man. Seriously.

When you get back to TO it's time to get you a drink or 2.

Hell, instances like this might even call for a TA fire-aid party. I know I'd throw in some $.
