The group package at guv this year is only $1000 and last year it was $1500 for the same thing... leads me to believe that guv might not bring anyone in for nye

Posted by T_ALI on Nov-22-2008 15:03:

yea, and don't they have house/progressive only in the guv and stuff like hip hop/etc in the other rooms?

I'll prbly go to see Markus Schulz if nothing else is happening that night.

how much r tix?

Posted by revival on Nov-22-2008 17:25:

tickets start at $35

Posted by kaniz on Nov-22-2008 18:28:

No idea what my plans will be yet, but think I'm going to try and simplify it this year to just one house-party for a pre-party then off to an event sometime after midnight. Trying to do two house parties + getting to a club before midnight was a bit of a headache

Guv doesn't normally bring in international talent for NYE.

that's correct!

The only other time beside last year was sometimes in 2001 where they brought in Max Graham and he spun in the KH(warehouse back then).

honestly Guv NYE in the main room, is probably one of the very best nights @ Guv. I've skipped a cpl but every time mark was on OH HE WAS ON !!!!

for roughly 12 to 13 hrs...Bringing IT!

Please keep us posted

I'm not really into psy-trance but what's the whole deal with psy culture?

Last year Tiesto played in Montreal after NY and was really late... so this was their way of preventing the situation...

So Im not too sure whats happening in Montreal NYE

There are no major headliners in MTL this year on the 31st.

I'll be there on the 1st, hopefully it will be something fun.

That link didn't help to expand on what you were trying to say. I'm quite aware of the origins of psytrance on the beaches of Goa in the late 1980s. What is it that you are trying to say about it though?

Some people who are into psytrance are into psychedelics, some people who are into psychedelics are into "psychedelic culture". That culture has some people who tend to latch onto various philosophies of other religions, especially eastern religions. However, they are not all necessarily inclusive of eachother. As, you may simply like psytrance and no interest in psychedelics, or into psychedelics and have no interest in those other cultures, or, may be interested in those cultures, yet have no interest in psychedelics or psytrance. And, various other combination of being into one but not the other :P

But, to deny that there is a strong influence of psychedelics in the psytrance scene would be a bit silly, just look at how many producers / comps / song names / etc pull in references to mushrooms, LSD, DMT, etc. Hell, 1200 mics have an entire album with each song named after a different psychedelic... just sayin...

But, there can be quite a strong culture around psytrance, especially once you start looking at the festival circuit / doofs, which also gets quite a bit of a "hippie" vibe.

Toss in the roots of Goa/Psy going back to Goa India, hippies traveling on the road through India for 'spiritual/personal enlightenment' (or, just to get high and have a good time, to each their own).

I can sort of get how he followed the train of thought to ask the question even if he didn't articulate it very well. But, the question didn't seem that out of left field to me.

I guess Circa's not doing anything either and when it comes to Mark Oliver vs Doman and Pettigrew; I'd rather go with Mark Oliver

keep that phrase ready. you'll probably need to paste it 50 times on TA over the next month, lol.

Does anyone know anything about fw for NYE?

Last year I went and it was perfect, not over crowded, good tunes, low key, and didnt cost a fortune.

why dont u just tell us who you MIGHT bring

Posted by basilisk on Nov-27-2008 03:21:

Sigh. I'll spare you a flippant response and state clearly that I'm not personally throwing a NYE party. In fact, I don't really get around to throwing any sort of big events. My time is more focused on DJing and promoting my netlabel and web site. I leave the event planning to people who have the time and patience for it.

All I was saying earlier is that I've heard good things about who might be coming for NYE.
