This is going to sound ridiculous but I just now realized that the singer is actually saying "Be as one" in Be As One. I always thought it was just jibberish or something.

Great set, I'd love to hear this stuff live. Guess I'll have to wait 10 years or so for the "everything 95 is new again" fad.

A-la Northern Soul?

And then all the ableton kiddies will rush to make '90s-style trance
And they'll still put overcompression and ping-pong delay in it.

Yes, if you new the title, no if you didn't...

When I heard this track (many years ago) in a Belgium club we thought she sang "The greatest song". Took a while before the guy in the record shop knew which track we were asking for

One of the best EMs of all time...

Is there a digital version of the mix of Change that appears here? I can only find a ~4 min version on beatport and other download sites.

I knew the title, lyrics just never clicked until yesterday!

I'm surprised you found any version at all. I never found anything for my epic house sets (SHAMELESS PLUG: download them now if you liked this EM!) on Beatport or the like.

I always compulsively sing the first "You can change your mind!" when it comes in over Ocean Drive. It's such an incredible moment in the mix.

I wasn't expecting to find anything either, not a lot of stuff that I search for pre-97 or so is on these sites. Pleasant surprise but frustrating that it's a cut down version.

And yeah, definitely check out his epic house sets.

Thank you for sharing this EM with us. Definitely the most impressive Essential Mix I've heard. And that transition you've refered to in the other thread, whoa! That's real magic.

Posted by Chimney on Nov-30-2008 10:19:

Thank you for uploading this. There isn't possibly a cue sheet around to go with this?

THE TRANSITION

Posted by Existo22 on Nov-30-2008 16:39:

Great Mix!

Barring some of the cheesy 90's diva house/ house in general vocals going on in this mix that I've never been able to really like or appreciate, the music is fire.

And that transition into Change was bombastic.

I didn't use to like the 90s diva vocals, and I can't remember what made me change, but now I love them, especially when they're used in a progressive context instead of a garage/funky one.

For some reason I haven't been able to make myself really like them yet. When the first instance of "You can change your mind!" comes in at that transition it definitely works, but after that point I want the vocals to stop

Those vocals are so money. If I heard any of these tracks dropped out somewhere I would freak.

I would do anything to hear Bedrock - For What You Dream Of [Full On Renaissance Mix] in some dark and dirty sweatbox at 4 in the morning.

One of my greatest moments was hearing this track in a club. It was at an old school night and unfortunately it was the warm-up DJ who played the prog while the peak time guys all played hardcore/rave, so the room wasn't packed yet and it was only about 12.30. Despite all that it was still incredible. I'd only ever heard the track mixed out after the vocals finish (as on the Renaissance compilation) so I never knew the track had that incredible ending. When the climax kicked in I went fucking nuts.

Damn.

I have the same problem too, but over the last year or so I've been enjoying them more and more. Like with lots of "big" music there's kind of a door that you need to open, you need to let the music in to do its thing without thinking about how corny it is.

Absolutely! Does anyone have more mixes by Digweed in his Renaissance-style house phase? I have a few, but this one is unbelievable!

On the subject of vintage Essential Mixes, I found these two second hand in a music shop today, for 5 each:

Not nearly as impressive, but the mix out of Change is really nice too. Brief and gets to a meaty part of Be As One almost immediately which prevents the energy from getting lost in a long transition.

thx for the upload, will definitely check it out
