This, along with all aspects of music, is incredibly subjective, and I'm glad you shared. Having done a lot of work in pro studios (not mine sadly) it's good to see an outside perspective relating to what you felt about you're own music, in different production environments.

Forget the negativity, maybe some is a placebo, maybe you could achieve the same results eventually with software, but the bottom line is you felt a difference, which effects everything from your workflow to your listening ability, and therefore will change the way you produce.

Also, there's a lot to be said for how hardware, that maybe only even passes the signal, will effect the sonic qualities of your work. It may be minor but it will be near near impossible to recreate this with software. Also, built in desk eq's vary so much and is a major consideration when buying a perticular desk. I know one studio that built their desk from components (EQs, faders, summing, etc.) of 4 different brands because of their distinct sounds.

Had a 2nd listen on some better speakers than my laptop ones. I now agree with Icone wouldnt say better but indeed more finish.

see I disagree mix one is muddy and muffled mix 2 is bright clear loud full the list goes on. I think worng comment that second mix is 100% better when in the context of sound quality

Indeed bright it has more depth, you can hear parts more clearly all what you would expect. I guess my thought was it sounded over compressed that made it sound off, can you hear it? But thats just a minor thing that can be changed - I do still prefer the version that has gone through the desk though.

Over compressed that surprises me. It was very gentle compression maybe the l2 limiter pushed it too far I would agree but over compressed im not sure.

Not argueing by the way its interesting to see how others percieve a mix i consider good.

Anyone else for overcompressed really?

Well there's something happening, I could be wrong. I can hear a synth ducking up and down in the background once it all kicks back in.

synth has trance gate on for pads that could be the ducking and the filters etc are opening closing that also makes ducking. Is it too noticable, not subtle enough?

Can't listen to it again just yet but yes its noticeble what evers happening. I'll have another listen around 7 and try and be more helpful.

Arrow

maybe as the new version is brighter the gate is more noticable, I'm not certian. Its nothing real bad though just something I noticed. So when you getting SSL at home then?
