Isn't there a Henry's or a motel room where you guys could discuss this?

I will defer to photographers of TOTA, as I don't know that much about cameras, but another site I've used over the years that seems to have good, detailed reviews:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/

I'm quite pleased with the Canon PowerShot SD 1000 IS that I bought a couple of months ago while I was in San Fran. I wanted something inexpensive, extremely portable, decent video, but without sacrificing image quality too much. After doing a bit of research, I chose this one. no complaints at all...but it's obviously *much* lower end that what you're looking for, lol. Another positive vote for Canon though and highly recommended for anyone who just wants a camera for vacations, taking to parties, etc. and not 'serious' photography.

what are you going to be using it for? what's your budget?

i'm guessing zoom is important to you since the one you have is 10x. check out some of there cameras, http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/com...dsch9&show=all.

They all have a large zoom range and are all in the same class. i can't tell you which one is better, but i have used the canon s5IS and it's nice. however, i've seen really nice pics taken with the panasonic which is also has the widest lens out of those. zoomed in, it can go up to 18x.

Get the panasonic lumix lx3. great camera and fast. it also support raw. it is much better than the G10. or wait till what fujifilm has up its sleeves next year.

i might bring it in one night to see what i can do with my kit lens (18-55 IS). it sucks that i really don't have money for anything else. although i might buy a 50mm prime in the next little while.

I have a canon 50mm lens f1.4...I think it's missing a lens cap (I need to check the box), but it's pretty much brand new, I have only used it like twice or three times. Let me know if you might be interested. I think I bought it for almost 400, but I would sell it somewhere in this price range 250 - 300.

I have a Canon rebel that I don't take to clubs often, but I have in the past. I also have a small digital camera that I take with me always in a purse...It was a bit over 200$, and it's fantastic...the video quality is amazing 2!!!

For point-and-shoot, I would stick to Cannon, IMO.

Same.

One of my key selling features is the fact that it still has a view finder. I think (at least in my experience) they're the only ones who still put view finders on most of their cameras. I've had a screen break on one of my past cameras, and if it breaks...you're basically fucked. Well, you could still use it, or you could pay to replace it...but how much fun is a camera with a broken screen? However, the main reason I like the view finder is the fact that there are times where you can't see the screen. It may not happen often, but in my experience there have been times where I can see the screen due to it being too bright outside, or if it's pouring rain and I want to take a picture quickly, getting minimal amount of rain on my camera.

Just my preference.

Yep. I bought a Canon SD1100IS for one of my sisters yesterday, in "Mocha." A brown camera. Who knew.

Couldn't resist playing with it (Canon P&S camera boxes aren't sealed in any way), and it's got the typical Canon UI with the outstanding image quality you'd expect from a Canon. Plus, it's nice and small.

If my N82 didn't act as a great camera already, I'd buy one myself.

I recommend Canon p&s to almost all my friends, everybody has been happy.

Canons p&s can go only so far without a fast aperture wide p&s without the chkdk hacks. wait for fuji or get the panasonic lx3

Posted by malek on Nov-29-2008 05:35:

fuji -> XD cards = fail
