I prerecord my mixes. I'm not a "professional" by any case, meaning I don't do live gigs and just spin for a university's radio station which broadcasts online, so it's just a hobby of mine (A very BIG hobby).

I prerecord my mixes, cuz I don't have a laptop where I can at least use my program and spin live and monitor the sound. Plus I have to handle commercials as well. For me it's easier to do it before hand.

I spin from 11PM-12 AM every Wed. No one is on after me, so sometimes i extend out. Next week I'm planning for at least a 3 hour show cuz the bloody online server fucked up this week and half my show this week was lost and I also because I didn't broadcast during the holidays.

Wait, what? There are numerous essential mixes that were recorded broadcast live from events at 3 in the morning.

Like everyone said, it depends on the show. A lot of bigger online stations do pre-recorded, just because its easier to manage that way, but there are still a lot of live shows out there on the smaller stations.

FM radio is live a lot of times, beyond the canned ones for big names, or if they are coming from a place where live isnt possible (like an EM from Australia or someplace half way around the globe).

Also DJ's, especially big name ones, spin every single night for the most part, or at least a majority of the nights in a week. DJ'n is a tough gig, doing a radio show in the comfort of a studio is probably a welcome break for some.
