......a very intimate night with Hernan... I love Giant Thursdays when it dosent get very crowded and you get to enjoy a world class DJ in a uncrowded, relaxed setting....

Marcus Schultz is up next!! I haven't seen him in a year... Bring it Marcus.... you know he will!!!

well done ryan, thats a solid spot!

There actually are quite a few, like Eelke Kleijn and Jody Wisternoff, but no one comes even close to being as famous or popular as Hernan.

He got on and flowed into it like he was making sandwiches for the kids. Just pure ease. He played a sick, deep set which is what I love about him the most. Perfect flow, perfect mixing, perfect choons. The guy is something else.

Lots of TA's there tonight which was really cool for sure. Thrax in the mix incognito steez... hahaha. Nice.

Ryan, you had a great opening set. It was totally banging...and then around 11ish, the BPMs started to slow down (as you said above)...just getting ready for Hernan's set.

I mean, I know Hernan to end at 1:45, but so sad....

Night was fantastic. Hernan is always fantastic. Down to earth, friendly, loves what he does, the music and the fans. Total class.

Club was cool; enough room to dance and hang out. I'm just not used to the clubs-in-a-mall vibe of OC.

Can't wait for a longer set tomorrow night!

Some really great comments here I'm reading tonight. Consider yourselves blessed he always plays on the west coast in USA.

I'm one of the biggest Hernan fans out there, and with good reason. You guys have nailed most of it. He truly has perfected the progressive sound all the while staying up to date with the current trends of tech house/minimal sound. Nevertheless his sound is not just deep, but for me, the deepest, most meaningful sound I've ever heard, and not just one, but damn near every occasion.

Especially nowadays when DJ's are abandoning their progressive or tribal or deep house roots for the minimal tech bandwagon, he is one of the few that has managed to keep his original sound while incorporating the new stuff. And quite well, I might add. His mixing is near perfect, right up there with Danny Howells and the best of them.

He is probably the coolest, most down to earth DJ you will ever meet. He plays more dates annually, around the world, than just about anyone else, yet he pretty much travels alone. Just a great, humble guy to be around and have the pleasure of having a conversation with.

Hope those Southern CA shows did justice.

Cheers!

This was my first time seeing Hernan live and I must say that he exceeded my expectations. His track selection is amazing! Most tracks were IDs to me.

Anyone able to ID any of what he played?

Ryan, like I said after the show, a great set from you. I imagined that is more like what you would play if you were headlining. You brought it in well for Hernan. I especially liked when you dropped that Alex Kenji track. The crowd was definately warmed up at that point!

Too fucking bad his metrodance show got cancelled since of april 2008! the last set I have been able to hear of him is his August mix which was superb! There needs to be more deep progressive djs

Thanks man. I sometimes feel like it's ok to play a few medium-big tracks during an open set depending on who is headlining, the vibe of the night and as long as the last 20 minutes before the headliner the tempo or tracks level out and make it easy for the headliner to go in whatever direction he/she pleases. Of course it's not good to say, play Beatport top 10 or such since those are generally big bangers

I remember once at Tentation I saw Hernan bring down the tempo to 125 to start his set and that really stuck in my head because generally at the Giant OC events headliners play 128+ to start. So for Thursday I had it at 125 the entire time (until the end) and sometimes I still thought it was fast, but never felt like it was too slow though 125 seems to be more the tempo of deep house DJ's. Then again, the word "deep" has been used quite a bit to describe Hernan on this post by many people so..

All in all, he is a DJ I aspire to be more like.

Ryan is an expert at handing it off to a DJ. Superb track selection!
