I hate it when 50-yr olds pretend to be young and hip and try so hard to act cool.

| Originally posted by MarkT I didn't say they should be locked up. I said they should be fired and charged with whatever is appropriate under the law. I could go around all day long mugging old ladies for their purse. Because "I can", while other people go out and work, doesn't in any way, shape or form justify that this behaviour exists or legitimize it as an alternative choice or put the onus on anyone else to change my behaviour. your rationale is exactly what is wrong with society...i.e. people not being held accountable for their own choices and actions. it's always someone else's fault, or someone else is also responsible, or ___________ mitigates the cirumstances, etc. they broke the law, they should pay accordingly. it's is IN THE INTERESTS of educational institutions, employers, licensing bodies, etc. to confirm the credentials of applicants (no doubt their negligence is not to be swept under the rug), but 'accomplice' is a bit much. negligence is indeed inexcusable...but it's still different than overt illegal behaviour. |
heh, I just got this in my spam-folder:

Im not playing the devils advocate here im just saying that these guys do it because they can. and they can because 'we' let them so instead of trying to incarcerate all these punks try to prevent them from having an opportunity to get incarcerated thats being honest |

If the degree is worth anything to begin with, the person who fakes having one will be called out pretty quickly.
This is why no one is really able to fake being an engineer or a medical doctor as well as they can being an arts grad.
I would think for most positions requiring degrees, the interview(s) would be the nail in the coffin...(blah blah oh I used to live in ____ near that university where did you live?). So unless you are a great liar and have a bit of luck, falsely advertising you have a degree seems REALLY risky.
Technical interviews are a quick way of separating the wheat from the chafe, even if you legitimately have a degree.
Sure some people are getting jobs using a false degree, I imagine in the 30 second glance world its somewhat meaningless. I'd be more worried about people lying about experience and providing false references.
