+1

why should I pay extra if I want a coke but have self control and am not fat. tax the fatties for overconsumption of resources

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-16-2008 14:36:

Well it would make sense if they only charged this tax to the visibly obese. I, for one, agree with it. Obese people need to feel embarrassed and even ridiculed about their choices. Fucking cows.

did anyone else see this? thoughts?

I actually like the idea. Fat people are an enormous burden on our health care system, and caring for them is a huge misallocation of resources.

while that's true, there's a much higher propensity for these targeted products to cause obesity.

I remember watching an A&E (or discovery or TLC - not sure which one) show on some 800 pound guy. His doctors told him to eat health stuff like fruit, thought eating 100 oranges a day was healthy just because it was fruit. Dumb ass!

Read this today.... so true:

quote:

Since when did that become the responsibility of government? Parents have that responsibility. If the government wants to get involved in the beverage issue, they can have them pull the vending machines out of schools, which sell the sodas to the kids. Parents would probably welcome that change anyway, and at least that's a legitimate area for government action.

New York will probably sell fewer Coca-Colas and Pepsis as a result of the tax, especially in vending machines. People won't switch to the diet versions, however (diet drinks are an acquired taste), nor will they buy milk or bottled water. They just won't buy anything at all. The increase in tax revenues that Paterson uses to partially justify the new policy won't appear, leaving New Yorkers thirsty and the government in no better position than it is now- but with more enforcement responsibilities than it had previously.

Those aren't the only taxes Paterson plans to raise. He wants to reinstitute the sales tax on clothing and shoes, while increasing welfare payments 30%, making it easier to qualify for Medicaid and expanding the Family Health Plus program. The state of New York needs its own obesity controls instead of an obesity tax. When Paterson proves that he can slim down government, maybe he'd have the credibility to act as a diet coach for his constituents. Until then, have a Coke and a smile, and shut the hell up.

omg that's right. the jerk off wants to add sales tax on clothes!

I work in the heart of the biggest shopping district in the worlddddd..... i fuking love this no-tax stuff!!!!!!!

that might be the dumbest essay/article (whatever it is) written about the issue. People won't stop drinking all liquids because vending machines don't stock soda. that's just stupid. a more realistic result is that people will still buy soda because the difference is only about ten cents. a 20oz bottle of soda in midtown is already $1.75 in many stores. If an increase to 15% (which would bring the price up to $1.85) is too much for a drink then $1.75 is likely too much for that same person. although from the article i'm not sure if the tax will be 15% or 15% + the normal sales tax of 8.75% (23.75%). The article suggests a 23% tax, but that doesn't sound right.

the ability of some people to critically analyze the true consequences of these measures is unbelievable.

no one dares to publicly condemn obese people because it will hurt their feelings with all the legal aftermath. but anyways, they should be the ones extra taxed for everything, especially public transport and health institutions (and maybe elevator services)

And that's exactly why there's so many fatties in the world.

the same can be said about ******s too. If they would just let us make fun of everyone we wanted to. I would start off with white trash women.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-16-2008 17:32:

I'm sorry but that's not the same thing at all.

why not...people choose to be white trash just like people choose to be obese.

Why not have a white trash tax on all items that white trash people would buy....or even have a black tax on fried chicken and watermelon.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-16-2008 17:35:

Are you sure you're not just being oversensitive because you're fat?

because the idea to call it an obesity tax when in reality its a tax on high calorie items (soft drinks) is absolutely insensitive.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-16-2008 17:40:

And why should we be sensitive to obese people? I think you're missing my point. Being sensitive just enables their fatness.

That is absolute bullshit.....if anything.....being insensitive only makes the problem worse.

I understand you don't like fat people and that is fine. I just hope nothing ever happens that will cause you to be a fat cow some day.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-16-2008 17:49:

Lol.
