Accoring to RA they "locked out all of the fake e-mail spamming street teamers and let the RA Users go at it"

lol. and i thought you meant there was a better way to set up the poll to merit voting based upon skills/technicality etc.
at least, that's the impression i got from your post

IMO this poll has equal worth as the DJMag poll. popularity poll, except instead of heavily influenced by trance fans, this one is by techno fans. big whoopidee doo

Yeah i agree, its definitely techno heavy.

I dunno, for me this one just makes more sense. I should have been clearer in my previous post regarding the voting process.

I feel that maybe its RA users may just take the voting process more seriously then at DJ mag? as certain djs IMO receive a lot of spammed votes, and its basically the same every year.

Either way its just a poll, at the end of the day it means absolutely nothing to the average electronic music fan, its jsut soemthing certain dj's can use as leverage, if they choose, to justify their booking fees.

Don't be bitter just because they ignored the voice of the trance crackers.

He'd totally have made it, but I think he was declared ineligible due to some silly rule about playing international gigs or something. Don't worry, I voted for him.

+1

I am not a Magda hater or anything but seriously, does anyone actually believe that Magda is the 9th best DJ in the world??? Not even close... M_Nus just seems to be the big fad in the EDM world right now.

are you sure these votes were based upon a DJ's technical skills rather than popularity?

Posted by NuERA on Dec-20-2008 19:36:

i didn't say that, i said in my opinion, regardless, this list is a better reflection of skill.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Dec-20-2008 20:06:

any pole that has tiesto in the top 100 is way off

I thought Carl Craig would have been higher.

that's so unfair! z103 says the street mix is the #1 mix show in the world.. how could he not be included?!

I think Andrew means that the individuals on this list have more technical prowess than those on the DJ mag list - not that they are necessarily voted in based on skill.

and how would you rate technical skills? better track selection? (and that will differ based upon person's taste) EQing? tricks and such? programming? who can fiddle with CDJ or Ableton the best? ability to please the crowd?

I'm not picking a fight with you, Andrew, but IMO, even talking purely on technical skills, it's too subjective

one thing about poles like this.

why the fuck is it that hip hop djs are NEVER even in the running?
their skills routinely are miles above anything most atypical emusic djs possess and when you thrown in a turntablist-skilled dj who has an encycolopediac knowledge of music and knows how to rock a fuckin party, what gives?

jazzy jeff is one that leaps immediately to mind. that guy smokes any other dj i've ever seen with ease.

You bring up a good point. Mix Master Mike comes to mind

For both RA and DJ Mag.. you get 5 blank slots that you fill in yourself.

Both are really a popularity contest.. if you vote for a Hip Hop DJ they may be on the list.

For me... RA is a better reflection of what I like.

You gotta look at who is releasing the list. ie. the magazine might be called DJ Mag but in reality its not a magazine for all DJs, it is focused on the EDM crowd. No one in the EDM world cares that Mix Master Mike falls between John Digweed and Richie Hawtin in the most popular DJ list. Its like comparing apples and oranges; its not really relevant to compare the two in my opinion. Seriously, if someone asked you who is a better DJ, John Digweed or Mix Master Mike, how would you decide?? I would even go as far as saying that its not relevant to compare DnB DJs to trance/techno/house DJs.

If The Source (hip hop mag) released a 'best dj' list, I dont think anyone would be asking 'why isnt Tiesto on here?'

exactly...and on top of that....Hip Hop has its greatest popularity in North America...and a very small following in the rest of the world...compared to EDM.

how would i decide? track selection, mixing, creativity, and party vibe.
in short, same as any other dj.

here's the thing tho - jazzy jeff plays ALL kinds of music, has done mix comps for house, hip hop, and mixes everything you could imainge, and does it with class and attitude. digweed? pffft, it ain't exactly hard to do what he's doing, from a technical point of view, now is it?

i think its a reflection of the pollsters themselves and a very narrow minded point of view, musically speaking, when not even a single hip hop dj is in the list, or for that matter that such a narrow range of music is on display. sad actually.

to take your analogy of apples to oranges a little bit farther, well hell yes its different fruit, that's entirely the point. the real question is this - are you satisfied with a serving of apples or oranges alone? or is it possible that there can be a more satifysing meal put forth when the chef has the skill and werewithall to do some genuine mixing? puns intended entirely within this paragraph btw.

before you answer this, please take the time to go see jazzy jeff live. i take him as an example because he's SO good and probably the best dj who reps a multi-range sound on the whole.

stop getting so hung up on the term "dj"... the poll is obviously for "dance music dj's" haha fuck
