if you need to have it on you while you travel, you're a cokehead. like seriously, wait until someone picks you up at the airport with your request at your destination.

Yeah, this is what I was getting at.
Anyone who takes the risk of boarding with shit on them deserves to be pulled aside just for being stupid.

I was under the impression that coke was quite prevalent amongst DJs.... how else would these guys have the energy to travel to different cities night after night and play sets at ridiculous times like from 5-7am.... unless they have some superhuman powers that i am not aware of?

If you love what you do, you don't get tired lol

+1....some guy got caught with drugs on him.....not really news worthy....now if it was Pres. Bush....then maybe it would be news worthy.

Most DJ's at this level will only play on the weekends and usually only 1 or twice. They get paid enough to not have to take every gig. It's the one's who aren't quite there yet that you'll see playing 5-6 gigs a week all over Europe and really working there asses off.

As for doing drugs to keep going, I don't think most guys need that. I ALAWAYS play sober myself, besides a few drinks if I can, and can handle a full night quite easily. In the summer/fall I did FW then FILM then BASEMENT several times and was fine, although extremely tired afterward. I have even found that if I do chugg some energy drinks I'll come down even harder, and if there's another gig in a few hours that's not good. Now, I do have a kinda pattern to shift my sleeping patterns around on weekends to adjust. I work 9-5 during the week and still can't sleep till 2am most nights and often take a nap after work as well......but I definitely don't need drugs to keep going.

I would assume most of these guys are professional and don't NEED to take drugs either, especially if you want to have any sort of longevity in this business. You can easily burn yourself out or become reliant on those drugs to play. Now, that doesn't mean some guys aren't doing that or that any DJ can't party a bit once in awhile....

Just my opinion, Has anyone thought it is just the life style of DJ's and the industry that they are in that they are surrounded by narcotics.
It is ultimately the Dj's decision and now Erick Morillo needs to pay the price. Wheather he gets charged or not is another story.
You could call Erick Morillo and other Big name DJ's living the life of a Rockstar in House Music. It's the life of the party.

This is what amazes me. I dont understand (but am impressed) how you guys have the energy to do multiple sets in a night over an 8-10 hour period... heck, most people are tired as shit sitting behind a desk for that long of a period. I cant imagine bouncing around behind some CDJs for that long, meanwhile continuously thinking of good songs to play. To be 100% honest I always assumed that most DJs did drugs (i.e. coke) to keep them going and motivated during these long periods; impressive that this is not actually the case!

I'd just laugh if that were the case and that would make him an even bigger idiot then he already is.

Well, unlike sitting behind a desk for 8 hours, this is a passion for me as I assume it is for any other DJ. We LOVE what we do and it's not a job at all. So I love being able to play 2-3 gigs in a night. As well, because every venue and time slot is different, that gives me the chance to play very different tracks and styles throughout the night. I really enjoy being able to do all that in 10-12 hours. Now, typically I'll have an hour or two in between to relax and mentally prepare for the next gig too.

Now, if I was partying my ass off or all coke'd out.....I would be a mess or all burned out by the end of the night.

Here's a review Ni-Cd did on one such night:

I don't think you necessarily qualify as a cokehead simply b/c you use cocaine.

Posted by chico on Dec-23-2008 19:39:

anyone who flies regularly knows enough not to bring anything through an airport, especially anyone who uses drugs. i'm more curious how he was stupid enough to get caught and whether or not he intentionally brought it on. even grooverider got caught with only a little bit of weed he had accidentally left in a pocket of his jeans and essentially admitted to being stupid for not checking them before he packed.

Unintentional - stupid but maybe a bit unlucky
Intentional - moron
