I've yet to meet anyone who wasn't cool. even oakenfold was pleasent enough when i met him back in 2000 at the height of his popularity

I've met a bunch international DJ's this past summer and I would say the most humble by far (that I've met) is:

Christopher Lawrence. This past summer after playing his set at the Guvernment we both just sat at the edge of the stage and talked about music for a bit. Real down to earth cool guy.

Nic Fanciulli is awfully nice, and Sander Kleinenberg too. Max Graham is a great guy with a great sense of humor.

Yes. Not only is he a down-to-earth guy but he puts out free mixes every month. I suppose you could say it's just promo for him but I still think he works ridiculously hard to just make music as opposed to money.

I think actions speak louder than words, personally. Some guys distinguish themselves by doing a lot of work for loyal fans without any strong incentive for monetary or celebrity gain (i.e. that tiny little Orkidea party at Slimelight years ago), while others come across as humble on account of their perfectionism and never thinking that they did a good enough job (that would be Danny Howells - although who can say for sure how sincere that is?)

But really, all DJs are human beings, and most DJs, like most human beings, are pretty humble when you get down to the metal. There are only a tiny handful who come across as really stuck-up. I won't name names, because I think everybody knows.

Just talking about which ones are "humble" already seems to be elevating them to some special status. Of course they're humble - they should be. Not like anybody talks about which Nobel prize winners or professional athletes are humble.

you haven't read any interviews that howell's has given, have you?
look at the one on RA in particular if you want to know what kind of human being he is. his actions speak far louder than any normal dj's would.

like prefering to play a marathon set rather than have an opener warm up a club for him because they just dont satisfy

...and then you have this dj/producer ass who wears a helmet as part of his schtick and comes across arrogant in interviews (and in person too.. I met him once. Yeah, I fnkn said it)

The two that promptly come to mind for me are:

Steve Porter

and the obvious answer....

Danny Howells.

I've met both of these young chaps and no doubt about it... super duper humble djs. Who else have you met, or even heard from a reliable source that they are humble?

I'm surprised no one mentioned u

did you even read his RA interview?

you might find it interesting to know the whole thing of him spinning here in toronto at fw all by himself was an idea not originated by howells at all but suggested to him. he was humbled to be given that opportunity and it worked out so well both for him and the club the first time round that it made sense to keep that thing going.

he's a human being with a conscience for society and humanity first and a passion for music second. the fame and all the trappings are what they are given his stature, but they are not a part of who he is as a person.

my favorite is more humble than your favorite dj.. and if you think otherwise you're a stupid idiot.

and who would that be?

Posted by psyrel on Dec-30-2008 03:20:

Nick Warren
Howells

Howells used to do start to close sets in Montreal, NYC and London for years. I think after some not so good opening djs here in Toronto (remember Dean Coleman at TIL?) and the fact that the people at FW are brave enough to do something different, they opted to give it a whirl and see how it goes. The result has been true extended sets from Danny including a proper warm-up. As one of the few djs who excel at "taking you on a journey" marathon sets, I'm glad that Toronto can offer Howells the opportunity to do this.

tenaglia and deadmou5

Posted by activate on Dec-30-2008 03:46:

Tenaglia is defintely a Diva, but at the same time he's super down to earth with his fans.

I remember walking down Collins in South Beach a few years back with a buddy, this silver Hummer is driving by and my buddy(a DT superfan) points and says yells "Danny".. DT pulls his car over and chatted with us for a couple of minutes. He also regularily posts on DTourism, he provides his personal email to fans and responds to literally almost every email they send him.

Pretty much anyone I've ever met, booked or played with has been really friendly.
Only once I've ever booked someone up who was really cranky and a bit of a dick, but I don't blame him either. His agency gave us the wrong flight intinerary, so he was picked up 3 hours late...this was 2-3 days after an award show, on the tail end of a bender not having slept for a while. I woulda been a cranky pants too.

some of the nicest...

Chris Lake
Glaude
Kobbe has a really interesting personality.
and Hatiras...although he's from the area he's still a globe trotter.

Posted by flavor on Dec-30-2008 04:08:

Zabiela, Glaude and Hatiras were the 3 obvious ones for me

Posted by cammaxwell on Dec-30-2008 04:09:

Donald Glaude
Dj Dan
John 00 Fleming

I've had the pleasure of hanging out with all these guys back in the rave days and they were all just great people. When I saw Dan and Donald on the Bound By SOund boat cruise this year, again they were still just great guys to hang with...
