You must have been in the wrong room...

The biggest thing people still don't get is, Mark knows how to read a crowd. He plays depending on the type of crowd. To me, that makes him a good DJ.

I agree with Arnej. Mark certainly doesn't need to prove himself after the 20 some odd years that he's been around. Woopy, so he may have been a little off here and there...I certainly didn't care. Unless your using Abelton all the time to beat mix everything perfect for you, it's expected once and a while. Everyone has messed up a mix or two in their DJ'ing career.

like a few people have already mentioned; mark is extremely experienced and definitely knows what he is doing. the people that talk shit are usually the ones that dont know shit. as a dj you play for the majority of the crowd. everyone in the club is at different levels so its really difficult to please every single person. all you can do is please the majority. if you are in the minority then all i can say is it sucks to be you. that doesnt make him a shitty dj. it makes him a human being doing his job. leave the guy alone.

No one is calling him a shitty DJ.. just saying that last night he did not offer his best performance.

It was a too all over the place and he could not keep up the momentum after Lawler. That is all.

Mark is definitely a good and even great DJ and 9/10 he is the perfect opener and closer... it is just unfortunate that last night for me he did not meet my expectations.

please read the original post again. that is basically saying mark is a shitty dj. the flow of a set differs between people as well.

The original post asked if any one else felt that Mark was the worst DJ at Guv last night... and I agreed with him. The key point being last night.

The original may have taken it further than I would have by thinking he should move on from Guv.

When we need advice about taking pics of people from two feet away maybe your opinion would mean something, in this case it does not. Its just stupid how there are so many great options for local DJs and they always have Mark spinning. If people had a choice for who's spinning and not Mark shoved down there throat, I'm sure the majority would rather Carlo, Junkies, M and S spinning.

Trust me I have been to a lot of clubs all over the world and heard a lot of DJs, I do know shit.

Posted by T_ALI on Jan-02-2009 02:34:

Mark plays trance, house, progressive and thats why he'll always be in the mainroom whereas DJs like the Junkies and Carlo lio only play house. And its not always just Mark in the main room; the guv always has sooo many DJs playing alongside Mark every other weekend.

But like I said, if u don't like what he's playing, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! There's numerous other clubs that play house.

not even going to bother with this post...

Posted by revival on Jan-02-2009 04:36:

could swear this thread was around last year

Posted by T_ALI on Jan-02-2009 04:58:

plus its nice to hear Mark play house, trance, progressive all night instead of just house.

So the man had an off night. It happens. I think Cuzo (or She_Fitz, rather) summed it up perfectly.

Give the poor guy a break!!! He is soo underrated.
I prefer trance over house anyday but I had a great time last night.

I worked next to Mark Oliver for 5 years. I never saw him drink on the job. NOT ONCE. So unless things have changed, which i doubt, this theory is wrong.

Mark plays for the crowd. Im almost certain that most of the crowd was touristy as it was where i was working. Tourists want cheesier shit. Therefor this is probably what was played. There is a reason mark has held a residency at Canada's number one club EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT for 12 years. And it's not because he sucks.

Difference being that politics run my life whether i like it or not. I can choose my entertainment on the other hand.... Get it?

Must be all of the Red Bull and cranberry juice...

Or maybe the pomagranite juice...

He must get hopped up on the sugar...
