There was an interesting article not too long ago (in BusinessWeek, I think) regarding this and other problems in China. The black market there is posing a major problem as it so negatively impacts China's economy...and the gov't is struggling to crack down on it and various other negative aspects of the economic boom (like envrionmental waste, workplace safety, etc). |

It is a fine line, I know, but the distinction is important. As a consumer of movies, I am not willing to pay somebody for their illegal activities. I don't they deserve anything. |

if i remember correctly... it was something like 7k.
ha! in one of the Onion news videos, on the bottom scrole it said
"poor quality pirated videos flood the pirated video market"
the boxes/packaging and disc labeling they use for DVD-9 bootlegs sometimes look better than the real version. it's actually kinda crazy lol..

I buy my movies and regularly go the theatres. I prefer just getting the damn movie in one piece at the highest quality and not worrying about anything. Plus I have 5.1 sound and want to make sure I get a proper audio track, ESPECIALLY if there's a DTS audio track which I dunno if you can rip off (cuz I get my movies legit). I havent' made the jump yet to Blu-Ray.
I only download movies which are hard to get or if the godddamn distributor is being stupid with a wide release. Cases in point: Revoltuionary Road, The Wrestler. Two critically acclaimed films which the studios are being dumb for and rolling out slowly cuz of the subject matter. Nevermind that both Leo and Kate are in Revolutionary Road and that there's pure Oscar buzz for these films. It's only playing in three theatres in LA!!! These movies I can see downloading and ripping off, if the distributor is lacking balls to take a "risk" or teasing the public. Fuck that, you deserve to lose money.
I am guilty of ripping of music, but isn't everyone? But I still buy most of my tracks for my radio show off Beatport but not all the time. I like Beatport and their 320 kbps quality and how they're mostly on top of releases, but for some semi-popular songs I am guilty of downloading. I do buy CDs legit though if like the album enough. It's just frustrating with electronic music cuz of the lack of major mainstream support from big box outlets and most HMVs. Lately I've been resorting to Amazon.com but I dont' like waiting arrgh.
