Went from FL to Cubase 3 with no regrets!

Just bought Cubase 4 and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Its not the software that makes the songs, its the individual. Everyone has there favorite weapon, for there pros and cons. There is no best software.

To state otherwise is completely absurd.

Heck, in the past people used to make tracks with old Ataris or primitive Macs and a few hardware synths. And I like a lot of that stuff more than the pristine tracks that get put out these days...

I was using Cubase but moved over to Ableton about 7months ago. I find the work flow in LIVE alot quicker for some reason, defo a fan of Ableton.

I tried cubase, but for the life of me I couldn't get my midi keyboard working and couldn't load VST's so gave up. I use ableton now (which did all that automatically! also the easiest to rewire with) and love it as it really helps with generating ideas and playing with concepts on the fly. Without that clip view that lets you sample different combinations of loops I think I would spend twice as long making stuff half as good. Ableton just looks ugly and doesn't sit on dual displays very well.

I think I just needed a break from the whole pattern based arrangement system in FL. I have been using FL for 8 years now, and until a few weeks ago I thought it was the ideal sequencer for me. But now that I have tried Live there is no going back ! I find it more fun to produce with, faster to use (except for the piano roll) and has opened new possibilities for me in terms of mixing and arrangement

The first and only time I tried FL was 4 years ago at a friends on NYE, I wasn't serious at producing at that time but I felt that even if making 1 bar loop fun and easy, making a whole track was not.

When I got seriously into producing two years ago, looking out for gear and stuff I found out that FL Studio didn't support the VST format and that Live was the easiest one to work with MIDI. My choice was made and I was later baffled at how easy it is to use.

For example, Jaytech switched from Logic to Live stating that it was quicker to experiment with.

If you don't know them that well, you should learn the shortcuts. Makes the piano roll much easier and quicker. It used to take me forever till I finally gave in and read the manual, now I can do all the things I always wondered if you could even do in Live.

lol wtf? you dumbass, FL has supported VST since before it was even called "FL Studio"... Way back around "Fruity Loops 2.x". Oh, this is like 5 years ago by the way. :P

Got confused with Reason maybe.
Call me dumbass but there's no way I'm going back to FL.
Workflow is unbeatable in Live.

Unbeatable as in "I know all the shortcuts, I possess hardware allowing me to work faster but I never felt slowed down by the DAW".

Posted by echosystm on Jan-08-2009 23:19:

you don't get it... my point is that you're not going to know if the daw has a "good" workflow until you have some basis for comparison. "good" is entirely subjective.

seeing as you didn't use it long enough to realise FL has VST support, i think it is safe to say you have no clue.

No one tries every software thoroughly before making a choice that's what I'm saying.
I didn't like the pattern based workflow and that was it. Even if it does support VSTs, I'm never going to work on FL. I guess it's just a matter of preference.
Right now, I don't see any reason to switch to another DAW because there is in my own opinion nothing impossible with Live.

But then again, I have my own boundaries set and they're without a doubt different to yours.

and if said subject is satisfied with their current situation, then is it not to be considered "good" or at the very least "good" for that person?
