A long time ago someone made a post charting trance's evolution as a move from "sci-fi" -- future-oriented, mechanical, technologically infatuated -- to "fantasy" -- nostalgia, bliss, unicorns, blah blah blah...

Well, at least it has a theme. Other modern genres of EDM are associated with...Nothing (other than make you dance)

i don't agree - most genres have some kind of mythology associated with them - it just depends on what mythology you're willing to buy into, which is associated with personal identity

Because this topic is about the dwellers of Trancelandia.

Yeah that's funny ya'll say those two (serious) options: I'm stuck between Miami and Los Angeles. Where would be the best place to get a gig and be heard, any clue? Thanks guys.

You have a long way to go if you wanna take up some residency in Miami or Los Angeles (Id take Miami simply because I prefer east over the west)

So this whole move is centered around which place has the best chance for you to take up residency somewhere huge and go off on your dreams of being an international DJ? Ill just say youve got a long hard road ahead of you on this one.

The hell you can! That's only possible in Tranceilvania. Or possibly Trancend.

No I'm actually looking at those two cities for grad school, but I am getting classically trained to play the piano on the side and still spinning in case there's an opportunity for me to have some fun while getting a Grade-A education

Its a house mix isn't it?

And putting to sleep is not necessarily bad, its like when people say "i listen to ulrich schnauss to put me to sleep etc." ... I'm just saying that it serves a different funtion from Mr. Fingers-type hedonism.

Fair enough, but I doubt that Rob would take "it put me to sleep" as a compliment if someone said that to him when he spun a similar set in a club.

Haha true, although i just used headphones so it may have a completely different effect in a big soundsystem.

On topic:

I'd say LA. If you get bored of it you can just head up north to SF. East coast is wack
