I remember an article saying that men reach the height of their creativity before they settle down, and it suggested that this is in order to impress women to find a mate. Something like that.

I'm not really talking about playing / composing music, but just being obsessed with music generally. Like guys with huge record collections who read music mags or blogs all the time. Also, playing music almost never has any social payoff anyway, especially if the kind of music you make is unpopular where you live. Then it can actually be detrimental socially ("You like that techno stuff?").

I have always been, I guess you could say, fascinated by this. It seems that, in general, women don't seem to have hobbies/interests whereas guys are the exact opposite. I am not trying to be a dick, but its hard to find girls who are interested in things besides buying clothes, wearing makeup, watching TV, and getting drunk.

So that begs the question: why can't you attract a female of higher calibre?

Who says I haven't? I am just saying that I have noticed that women IN GENERAL don't seem to have many hobbies/interests compared to men. I know plenty of women who do have hobbies and interests, but even they are not as obsessed about their hobbies as guys, as previously mentioned by someone else in this thread. However, I know a lot more women who are still really nice/cool people but really don't seem to do anything unique.

I think my initial post was worded poorly by myself. I apologize... I gave the impression that I think all girls were just bimbo retards, which was not what I was trying to say. What I was trying to say is: there are a lot of high quality women out there who for whatever reason don't seem to have many hobbies/interests. They are really nice people and fun to talk to and hang out with, but when you stop and think about it, they don't really do much aside from go to school/work, drink on the weekends, go shopping, etc.

It can be hard to tell from a short impression whether a person actually has substance / an interest or is just putting it on to attract a certain kind of partner.

I've thought about this literally thousands of times after meeting so many women who can't tell you what they do on the weekend...because they literally do nothing.

The answer has always eluded me, but for some reason your post just sparked my brain, and came up with what I consider could be the correct answer:

Women are far more social creatures than men. Notice that while guys can "hang out", we nearly always need to be doing something during this time; watching television, playing pool, eating etc. Women are generally more adept at making conversation (and do it at twice the speed and volume that should be allowed by law), and hence probably don't need as many hobbies as men to keep them entertained because a far larger portion of their life is spent "socialising" (talking about inane crap on the phone or over coffee with one of their friends).

Conversely, I've also noticed that while women are extremely adept at bending men to their will in most aspects of life, it is generally men who decide the activities in a couple or in a group. You could chalk this down to men being intolerant of "girly" activities, but I think it has far more to do with men's lives being filled with things like going to sports matches or a certain bar. The men are far more adept at planning activities and enjoy them more than a passive thing with little distraction, and perhaps women recognise this and let the men choose.

You guys just need to stop hanging around and putting up with bitches.

It's true with literally everything, even predominantly female based activities (at the risk of sounding sexist) such as hair dressing, fashion, cooking, etc.

You could argue it's due to oppression or whatever, but women have the flip side of the coin too, they can get places simply because of a pair of tits, sadly a lot do. I think it is damaging to women in general when a few whore themselves out for 5 minutes of fame.

Saying that… It’s the idiotic men that put them in the position in the first place. Granted it is just to get laid. Short end of the stick is human suck.
