I can't say it enough about how excited I am to go this year...my friends backed out in 07 and last year I was unable to go for personal reasons...so FINALLY I get to go!!!

Will be my first DEMF as well and I know that a lot of Toronto TAs are always in attendance.

I don't think i've found anyone not staying in the ren cen thus far. Looks like that really is going to be the place to stay. Better hop on that shit soon, i'm sure everyone is going to catch on pretty quickly.

Hotels in walking distance, where people I know have stayed:

Holiday Inn Express Downtown
Marriott Renaissance Center
The Milner (kinda ghetto)
Sheraton Detroit Riverside
Marriott Courtyard Downtown (currently 100% booked up somehow)

you might also want to check this map, I made it for last year's DEMF, this year will most likely shape up pretty similarly:

transportation = cabs, foot, or someone you know has a car.
there's the people mover, an elevated rail, but it's all but useless since you can easily walk everywhere it goes.

If you want the scoop on stuff from pissed off locals, check the detroitluv.com forum once they have the DEMF section up

i stayed at detroit riverside last year...

but it was only 10 bucks cheaper then ren cen and that is just way nicer.. and a block closer.

Can't make it back to the planetarium just yet b/c of upcoming relocation expenses etc . But definitely looking to go back before the end of the season. Kinda hoping they book at least one tech act before they go on break in the summer..

Will probably book @ Ren Center sometime next week after finding a place

yeah but the roll call aspect of it is going somewhat ignored because of the ADHD people who populate it. It's pretty pointless.

Anyhow, once stuff starts getting announced I'll make up a spreadsheet and update my DEMF google map with any new venues.

Plus I haven't seen some of them since feb 2003!! So for everyone to get together - is a pretty big deal. This will be the biggest meetup the COR has ever seen! hehe.

Right now there isn't much to talk about relating to the event and we're all excited. :P

Nope, sitting WMC out this year. I'm sure I will miss it but I'd rather save the vacation time & money for something else at this point since I've gone three years in a row now.

yeah.. It's not that big of a deal anymore.

I am only going cuz my boyfriend has never been - so I am kinda living vicariously through him. First time is always fun!
