-- X-Box 360 or PS3?

tough choice. i would have to say go with the 360. like others have said, steaming netflix is totally badass. plus you just don't get the online action that a 360 has to offer. just look at the online stats for Call of Duty 4 on each. 10million online for 360 vs. the 5million for ps3. the blu-ray is great and all but there DVDs are expensive. not to mention that even though sony/bluray camp said they wouldn't raise the prices when HDDVD went down, they still did. as a company, i am disgusted at how Sony treats their customers. their business ethics are horrible and i refuse to promote someone with ethics so bad.

anyway, that's my .02

Uh oh, the moderator said PS3, so sorry guys, PS3 it is.

No no, seriously nice reviews. It's looking like the PS3 takes the gold but I do have a netflix account (Ryan, check it out at the App Store as well), and netflix is the shit.

As far as pricing, I'm thinking I'd like to wait it out, but the only thing with that is it's pointless (other than paying less BEING the point), because game systems will continue coming out, older one's will drop in value, and game console technology will always outgrow the lesser, so I might as well drop the money now. I'm pretty sure they'll be going even lower than $316 (someone's gotta make money somewhere). The plasma I bought, a year ago, weighed in at $3700. I just scored it at Best Buy for less than half that.

I'm thinking in the dj world, cdj's are going to be dropping in price like flies. I'm sure everything's looking touch-screen in the next few years or so....even cars for God's sake.

It's taken quite some time for the PS3 to drop in price at all. The only reason why it's 399 now is because the original 80Gb model with the Ps2 compatibility is no longer available therefore they are saving more money just selling the basic model with no backwards compatibility. Like I said Sony is already losing about 50 dollars for every PS3 purchase which is down just recently so that's not really going to translate to a lower PS3 price by much. By waiting you are only going to save max 50 bucks I'm betting.

316 is more than reasonable. The only way to save more like I said is to apply for a sony card when they are offering 100-150 back on a PS3 purchase.

Also once you go blu-ray on your plasma it'll be hard to watch streaming netflix movies. Also since you already have netflix you should have no problems renting blu-ray movies since they are available on netflix as well. Not streaming but as of right now streaming movies on netflix are not in HD anyway. What a waste of a plasma. Why watch SD on your nice plasma? How big is it anyway? Anything less than a 6mb connection gets you less than DVD quality.

If you have a surround sound system to then streaming netflix doesn't give you the DTS or dolby digital that you would get. I might be wrong but this is what I've read.

lol okay fine. I've done a ton of reading on this. yal buy your PS3's and when I buy it for $299 in April, i'll be laughing at you

17+tax difference? Worth waiting almost 4 months? :P. I'm sure carlos makes fairly good money that 17 bucks isn't gonna break his bank right?

either way, each system is great. Just all depends on what you want your system to do. Xbox 360 has the edge in games however slight, but PS3 has the huge edge in movies.

You said you play PC games as well so I'm guessing most of the FPS games you wouldn't enjoy on the XBOX or the PS3. I tried playing FPS games on the PS3 and I don't enjoy it. I need a keyboard and mouse.

Each games have their exclusives and it looks like XBOX is getting most of them. Unfortunate for the PS3 but they have some pretty good games as well. Take a look at the list of exclusives and that might help you determine which system to get.

Good point.
So the "current" PS3 comes with no backwards compatibility? I mean, not that i really own any PS2 games, maybe one or two at most.

Only with ps1 games. They do plan on selling the whole back catalouge of ps2 games sometime in the future.

Sounds like Sony is ready to lose even more money. Nonetheless, unlike MS, Sony doesn't profit any money, so I'm sure if 360 prices start to drop, Sony will trail behind with price dropping.

Thanks for the help d00dz. Being that I'm getting older and running out of shit to do, or running out of things I find interesting (I know what you mean about $299 though Steph, sounds like the thing I'd do too), I wanna get something that won't get old after a while and get it quick. I'll give Target the honor of stealin' my monies this weekend.

The only reason I would buy a PS3 is for the blu ray, but I already have a blu ray, so I wouldn't buy one.

I keep wanting to pick up a 360, but I always spend the money on production gear instead.

Do you have a GC to target?

*scratches head*

I gave you a link to Dell that is selling the PS3 for 316. Waiting for 4 months when 316 is right there? Very little price difference between the two. 316-299=17 bucks. You make that in half an hours time I'm sure right?

Plus slickdeals has a deal on the xbox 360 if you decide to go that route. Unless you have a GC to target you'd be silly to pay retail price over Dell.

That is true. If you already have a blu-ray player than I'd probably go the xbox 360 route as well. It's like having your cake and eating it to. I'm still not too fond of having to play for online play. If xbox somehow had a free dumbed down version of xbox live that would work for me but that wouldn't make sense for MS so that'll never happen.

GC? You mean CC as in credit card? yea I have the Target card.

Dell is selling the PS3, but the warranty is 90 days, and after that it's non-refundable. If I can get the system at target and I pass the 30 margin and THEN the system fries, I can usually go up there and raise hell at the manager and exchange it.

I gotta read the policy at Dell thoroughly though. I mean shit, if I can get it at 316 without having to worry about it breaking or anything (especially during shipping), then I'll go for it. i just hate the idea of waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting until i send the item out, they get it, they check it out, they send it back, and UPS drops it off at my front door.

Fact unless your shit was defective out of the box the retailer will tell you to call sony or MS for repairs either way. I guess you could raise hell on a weak manager, but if I were that manager I'd tell you to get fucked and call security if you raised your voice.

i've had the ps3 for over a year without any problems. unless you're going to throw it around it will be fine. it's also survived a couple moves with just a towel wrapped around it. no big deal.

That's not what happened to my brother when he moved. The 360's cd-tray wiggled its way out of the gears and would not shut anymore, so he just went back to Target and told them the Xbox was defective, showed them the reciept and was able to exchange it just 2 weeks after he bought it brand new. Target can have the pleasure of sending the machine back, not me.

btw, put a paintball gun in your vagina.

Moves in particular is what scares. I guess the fckn laptop I had scarred me for life (i.e. moving the shit around too many times friend the HDD), plus the reviews on cnet where some guy said that if the machine were dropped once, you might as well go out and buy another console.

That's a 90 day warranty from dell but the PS3 itself has a 1 year manufacterer's warranty from Sony so after 90 days you would go to Sony for your warranty issues.

i believe the dropping thing is probably true that it would bust it up. just don't drop it. i haven't had a problem and i don't baby that thing.

How are the graphics with the ps3 via your tv?

another thing i was going to ask: are there any special cables (hdmi, etc...) needed to give the resolution a "boost"? The plasma I bought had a sticker on it that said "full 1080i"...im guessing that means i got my money's worth

HDMI all the way. I'm guessing your TV is 720p/1080i. 1080p is preferable with the PS3 since it can do 1080p but unless your TV is 50" plus you probably won't be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p.

I've seen people with HDTVs and PS3s and have them hooked up via composite. I just have to slap them upside the head and educate them.

Posted by Zild on Jan-15-2009 16:27:

I call BS on not being able to tell the difference. I can immediately tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on my 24" monitor.

For me though I always think. Why do I want to play bioshock @ 1080 on an Xbox when I can run it at 1200 on my PC.
