Weak kicks.

Actually this has been bothering me since I was DJing with vinyl back in the day.

This annoys the hell out of me, i worked my ass of with a track last year and my friend came to visit and asked if I just added ready loops and samples, ejay style :<

Posted by Subtle on Jan-15-2009 19:02:

Yes, people who assume that you make commercial dance music when u say that you make Trance.

Posted by jupiterone on Jan-15-2009 19:04:

the attitude of many producers. the 'you can't talk shit if you haven't released/produced anything' attitude

Posted by Subtle on Jan-15-2009 19:27:

Oh.. and producers who write their own biography in 3rd person.

Posted by EddieZilker on Jan-15-2009 20:24:

Generally, I dislike complacency in a track. I try to avoid being a "fire and forget" producer who simply triggers loops, then mutes and un-mutes them, as needed.

A simple loop is fine, when you're just starting out, but leaving a loop running throughout the entire song is just tedious. Even if its subtle, every track should evolve, throughout the tune.

Eddie Zilker has had a lot of experience with this.

New threads that end up asking "how do i remove the vocal from this track"

This is classic and I agree to it too. I see this all to often on myspace. Its not a horrible idea but, when you really tute your own horn, come on, get over yourself.

Also, ignorant people who think that all electronic music is techno, I never know whether to laugh or cry.

spot on

producers that remix a track and leaves out the original producers name in the title in order to make people think everything in the track was made by that one individual

i.e.

big shot producer - carte blanche
veracocha - carte blanche (big shot producer remix)

ya....

Posted by parafrNalia on Jan-16-2009 07:22:

People who complain too much. Was that a jab? Hmm...

People with no sense of humour.

- People that use vengeance loops.
- Vengeance loops

Fixed.
I've only heard 1 person doing it right, that was Cosmic Gate with his album a couple of years ago.

Posted by EddieZilker on Jan-16-2009 14:03:

Producer wannabes who drop a track, after they've been in the business for a month, and expect people to marvel at its excellence (particularly when it is definitely not excellent).

Is this supposed to be some sort of joke?

Posted by Storyteller on Jan-16-2009 14:06:

- People that want a big music career but are reluctant to invest in it (monitors, legal software etc.)
- People that produce tracks and check it out in a lousy studio with terrible acoustics and super bass heavy sound thinking they did a great job each time while it sounds shit when heard in any proper environment.

I think I know this person.

Do they also have a belief in their abilities which is grandiose in consideration of any demonstrable skill? Have they turned self-aggrandizement into such an art-form that they now believe themselves to have a Gordon Ramsey-like entitlement to verbally browbeat anyone who they deem inferior (usually just people who are stepping on their toes and/or threatening to pop that grandiosity gap)?

AGREE!! I HATE that! One more thing to add to that is when people write their names featuring the artist they are remixing... For example "DJ Clubsandwich Feat. Ferry Corsten - Radio Crash" (made-up example haha) .. that makes me so irritated!

Posted by cryophonik on Jan-16-2009 18:15:

Here's my bitch-list, in no particular order:

- Genre Nazis - you know who I'm talking about - you label your 135bpm song as [Trance] and they reply with...uhh, this is more like Deep Euro Vocal Prog/House/Trance.

- Misuse of the term "Prog" or "Progressive"

- People who use the term "sidechaining" when referring to ducking.

- People who tell newbies that they don't need a MIDI/keyboard controller to make music.

- Threads asking "how do i make teh deadmau5 bass/lead/etc."

- People who think that music theory is a "bunch of rules" and claim that it will ruin your creativity.

- People who make idiotic statements like "trance is just as complex as classical/orchestra music."

well it's true

but it's recommended you have one

Posted by Zild on Jan-16-2009 18:22:

I hardly ever use my midi keyboard. It was in the closet for a year or two and now it is close enough that I can hook it up if I really need to. (on the floor unplugged)

Yes, I agree that it is true that you don't need one, but it's terrible advice IMO and it annoys me when people give that advice (that was the subject of this thread, right?)

cryophonik is a music producer hailing from northern California who is annoyed by people who are annoyed by producers who write their own biography in 3rd person.

edit: just messing with ya, Subtle!
