i usually order this if i'm in Milwaukee...

otherwise i just go for whatever is cheapest. i rarely drink hard alcohol and if i do it's always mixed drinks, so i don't think it makes sense to splurge. i'd rather spend my hard-earned drinking money on tasty beers or wine.

You failed Mr. Weatherby. There is already a thread for this. And since you know about the search button......

But in any event, here is a link to the thread in question.

I agree. They still market themselves as "the best tasting vodka in the world" and it's been 11 years since they won any significant awards, and have since been bought out. It's the only vodka I've had that strangely tastes more smooth when it's warm than cold... hard smell and shit burn aftertaste. They are just masters of marketing like Absolut.

Best tasting vodkas that you can buy in the U.S. IMO: Jean Marc XO, Kauffman, Jewel of Russia Ultra, Hangar 1, Stoli Gold, Bong.... and maybe a couple others.

There are some from Russia that I wish I could find here that are amazing. Grey Goose, Absolut, Skyy, Ciroc... blech. Just good advertisting.

Posted by Psiweaver on Jan-16-2009 18:16:

I like hanger 1 and jewel of russia a lot. I'd say they are definitely the best.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Jan-16-2009 18:39:

I am going to have to try this Jewel of Russia.

Fixed.

Quite honestly, it is either Belvedere or Grey Goose that people like. Few like both.

In a nutshell,You do...but you have to actually try it. The best are for sipping and not shots/mixing. Im more of a tequila guy so I will use that as the example. The college crowd ( generalize ) may think Patron is "great" and that cuervo is shit. Thats because they havent tried "Cuervo de la Familia". Most dont know about it so cuervo is written off as shit. My favorite ( at a reasonable price) is Don Julio, so smooth and tasty.

That's the one that's always bothered me about Cuervo. They make a really good tequila, but it's not the one that everyone buys/stocks in bars. It's this weird hard to find stuff

Milagro (I think that's how it's spelled) is a pretty good tequila too.

I've had this, it's surprisingly good. What was their schtick on this? It's organic or something right?

One of my favorite vodkas was this Polish potato vodka I bought at Trader Joe's.

Otherwise it's usually Skyy.
I tried Skyy for the first time on NYE and it just took on the flavor of what-ever I mixed in it. I drank the entire bottle and hadn't even noticed the level of drunkeness happening. And the bottle is pretty

When I was 15 and was in independent study, 4 of us would drink 2 bottles of this stuff a night. Now, we can't touch the stuff. Instant puke-a-thon.

Used to drink a ton of this shit, but now I'm with Gehz on this one. It's shitty, cheap, and full of impurities.

Dammit! You're both wrong. lol... this is the fixed version:

Belvedere > Stoli > Grey Goose

Gehzumteufel is right again about something... those who prefer the Goose don't seem to drink Belvedere and vice versa

lol

ps: my sister just got back from Russia and almost got fucked on alcohol. The TSA site says 5 liters but apparently they enforce some 1 bottle per person thing. Such bullshit. They lucked out and got a sympathetic person that let them slide with a few more.

Posted by FallingMoon on Jan-16-2009 21:26:

Ketal One & Belvedere

if I am being cheap and don't feel like spending too much I love Boru Irish vodka & Svedka Swedish vodka, not that expensive but they're not cheap tasting @ all.

Damn dude... TSA is all fucked up. When I was there, 2 years ago, it said 2 liters. I was too scared to take a chance and bring more, after some bitch from Moscow airport security angrily made me give her a lighter I bought with the hammer and sickle and Lenin's face on it. It didn't even have the little gas insert in it, and that cow made me hand it in.

Yeah I fucking hate TSA. Inconsistent retards.

Best Vodka - Ultimat .. and no its not just the bottle, it really is an extremely smooth vodka

Havent tried the 18 year yet but the 12 year is fantastic. I just refuse to believe any bottle can justify a 150$ plus price tag. The Lagavulin is half that and has far better ratings from the critics.

If you get a chance a bar, pony up the cash for 1 drink to give it a try... you'll be impressed. I'm a newbie with the single malt scotch thing, and I've never tried Lagavulin so I'll give it a run and see how it is. So far what I've found easy to drink is the Glenlivit 12 year, Glenfiddich 21 year, McCallan 12 and 18. My palate is picky so if it's even a little harsh, I don't want to drink it. Any other recommendations?

I am the same. I hate harsh stuff. I want to enjoy it, not get sick of it burning my asshole off going down.

Posted by Frenchie on Jan-16-2009 22:47:

Maybe you need to stop drinking with your ass.
